I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and met with my surgeon/dietitian yesterday and am officially on to soft foods. This is the diet I received from her: Breakfast: cream of wheat Snack: protein shake 4oz Lunch: 2oz chicken 2 oz carrots (purreed) Snack: protein shake 4 oz Dinner: 3 oz refried beans 2 oz apple sauce Snack: protein shake 4 oz As seems to be common, this is the same as the bypass diet they give out, with only the portion size changing. I've pretty much made up my mind not to eat the carbs (hate cooked cereal, and all I really want to eat is protein.) She also said everything had to be the consistency of baby food. What do you guys think about that and this diet in general? Secondly, I don't think I could eat all that food. I had one egg yesterday and was full for 4 hours. Here is what I'm managing to eat: 60 oz water/gatorade 8 oz protein shake (40 g protein) 1 egg 8oz protein shake 2 oz refried beans, 1 oz cheese Is this enough at this point? Thanks

Your version looks darned good for this early out. The nut's version is more "balanced," of course, but not the kind of balance a DSer needs. I would have farted my guts out on all those carbs. And farts that early out are rarely just farts. ;D

Holy cow you're doing great! I wish I could get as much in as you can! Good work! Totally jealous, I'm still struggling to get 60 ounces of water in...trying so hard to do more and more every day...

Blech, their plan sucks.
Yours looks fine. Fluids are more important than food now, so concentrate on those, and try to eat as much protein based soft food you're comfortable eating. Dont make yourself uncomfortable or sick trying to eat too much.
Soft scrambled eggs, you can even add cheese to that Egg drop soup Cream based soups Tomato soup with melted cheese Egg salad or Tuna salad with lots of mayo, mixed up well
That kind of stuff.

Food isn't what matters. Fluids first, then protein--which does NOT have to be from food, especially this early out. At this point, eating for you is just training yourself. How to eat, what to eat. Food won't be your primary source of nutrition for a while.

Hi Bryan, Happy to see you graduated to soft foods!! I used more of the protein drinks than food. My stomach wasn't ready for much of anything else. I'm looking for my D.S. meal plans to help you out, found the 6 week post surgery, still looking for your stage. When I find it, Ill send it to you. Over all, my group said eggs are too filling, with not enough protein for early on. I like soft steamed poached eggs, w/parmesan cheese on top. I think I did slip a few of these in to my diet, rather than fluffy whipped scrambled, which take up more room in your tiny space. I did make refried bean soup, added home made chicken stock with cheese on top. Warm liquids went down easier, had lots of protein beef broth packets & protein hot chocolate, from GHP store. Other protein soups on the approved list were also protein packets of cream of chicken, tomato, cream of broccoli, beef broth w/thin pasta. Soft baby foods too, which I skipped. This is a sampling of what I enjoyed at that stage, I know there were many more suggestions, I'll be sending you soon. ;-) Sandra

You are only 2 weeks out?!?! I remember not being able to fit hardly anything in my sleeve! Great job on the fluids. I wouldn't worry about the food, what you are getting in is fine.
