I don't know if there will be a specific area designated for this topic, but I thought I'd start a thread here just in case. I'm 7 years post op and dealing with 15 pounds of regain. Planning to buckle down starting on New Years Day!

I'm about 4 1/2 yrs post op, 15 months post baby and working on getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight so I can then continue working towards my goal weight.
I'm ashamed to admit I put on between 60-75 lbs with my pregnancy and only gave birth to a barely 6lb baby. Peanut butter did me in!! I have however lost about 55 of that regain so far. Hoping to see my pre-pregnancy weight soon and then onward.

I was just tracking calories on myfitnesspal until I hit a several month stall. I started Weight Watchers in Nov to help with some structure and so far have lost 9.5 lbs in 6 weeks. I'm doing Leslie Sansone walking videos 5-6 days a week and tracking my food which always helps me stay on track and be more honest about what I'm eating.

The support boards on My Fitness Pal are great if you're looking for tools or information. I'm sure they'll be up and happenin' around the new year. If you're over there, friend me--I'm Victorious_One.

I started a thread on the Main Board about regain. I, too, am 7+ years post-op and dealing with a 20 pound regain that I want to lose. I am starting tomorrow by cutting out sugar. Baby steps.

I am 7.5 out with about a 20lb regain. Not earth shattering, but annoying nonetheless. I NEED to quit snacking at night. One of my biggest demons. That, and getting back in the gym 3 times a week...

Twenty pounds of regain is normal after the RNY honeymoon ends. I am thinking now that the South Beach diet is probably the best way for RNY long term post-ops to control weight. Dumping eliminates following Atkins for me. I cannot handle all the fat.

I'm three years out and I have a hard time wrapping my head around regain. I bounce 3-5lbs in ONE week....WTF???
I'm sooooo scared that one day I will wake up and it will be 20lbs.

I just figured out how to set up my ticker. I'm starting a brand new one, reflecting my current goals. I don't know whether or not 145 is realistic, because it was my very lowest weight, but I'm going to go for it and see what happens. Even if I just get to 150 I'll be happy. New Year's started out pretty good. I did a 10-minute Women's Health Cardio Blast workout on Sunday. My joints were hurting yesterday so I took a break from exercise. Today I'm planning to walk for 15 - 20 minutes. Nothing strenuous, just want to get moving again. I filled up my pill dispenser with all of my supplements this weekend. No excuses - I'm taking them every day. I have some decaffeinated herbal tea to sip on between meals. I'm going to try eating the same thing for breakfast every day to see how that works for me. - Coffee w/skim milk and Splenda - 1/2 c oatmeal w/ cinnamon, 1/2 t light butter and Splenda - Boiled egg with hot sauce I'm going to play with different menus and workouts to see how my hunger levels are affected and how easy they are to work into my routine. For my snacks today I brought an apple and a chicken soup Unjury shake with me to work. Lunch will be roast beef and green beans. Haven't decided on dinner yet.

Planning to buckle down starting on New Years Day! i'm embarrassed to admit that only after just about 2.5yrs out, i'm up 15-20lbs from my lowest weight. that being said, i know exactly where i went wrong, and what i need to do to fix it. for me, that means limiting simple carbs (and sugar particularly); and getting back to exercising 3x/week. i've already started with the food, and have firm plans to be exercising this week. no more bullshitting for me. i've got to get back to basics. i refuse to let this go any further.

I did well with my food, water and vitamins yesterday. Hunger was well under control and I didn't graze. (Yay me! ;D) After giving it some thought, I realized that I've been eating too much fatty meat - cheaper cuts trying to save money - so I went grocery shopping after work. I found a great sale on boneless skinless chicken tenders and stocked my freezer with them. For dinner I topped salad greens with braised chicken and dressed it with Paul Newman's light balsamic vinaigrette. Yum. I didn't get in my exercise though - got caught up with household stuff after work and by the time I was done I just didn't have it in me to do it. They changed something on our network settings so I can't get to Excercise TV at work anymore. I'll have to figure out something else. For some reason, today I've really felt a strong urge to nibble. I didn't do it, but I'm having to be especially mindful with my eating.

I'm 6 years out, and about 10 lbs off where I want to be (170 lbs), 20 lbs off my lowest (160 lbs), which was too hard for me to maintain. I started tracking my food again. I'm not restricting, just trying to make better choices. I also started training for my spring races, so my goal is to run 4 - 5 days a week, and build up my stamina. I was always in denial about this one, but it may have had an impact on my weight gain. I am a diet soda (Diet Mt. Dew) junky. I was drinking 6 cans a day, sometimes more. I quit on 1/1. If anything, my nutritionist will be proud

I haven't had much problem with regain YET; but damn the sugar issues are unreal and I NEED to reign this in now. I did good last night so day 1 is behind me. The nighttime munchies is my biggest pitfall.

The nighttime munchies is my biggest pitfall. Dana, this is the first holiday gain I have experienced since my RNY, nearly 8 years ago. It was only 4 pounds, but that put my total regain at 20 pounds. That is a helluva wake up call. 10-15 pounds was okay for me, but NOT 20. I have been cracking the whip with my food. And, I have a feeling my coffee consumption is gonna go WAY up. ;D

I am 3 1/2 years out with a 40 lb. regain. I lost my job a year ago and was out of work for almost 10 mos. I now work only a part-time job, that's all I could find. Anyway in October I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and started meds for that. I also developed lympedema in my right foot....last year was a bad year for me that's for sure. Anyone here develope a thyroid condition after their RNY?

They just hit a level where my MD put me on meds after WLS.

I had some regain, up 15 pounds by Thanksgiving 2010. I made two (three?) big changes, no more snacking (and no buying the snacks "for the rest of the family") and I started wearing a BodyMedia Fit armband and using it to log my food and exercise. Now, just over a year later, I've lost the 15 pounds plus a couple more.
I could totally be doing better with both food and exercise but it is very encouraging to be able to look and see how I'm doing and either rein in my eating or give myself a little leeway. Similarly seeing how many calories I've burned, how much exercise & how many steps I've done motivates me to get up and get moving. Best of all, tomorrow is a new day with a clean slate so every day my goal is just to do the best I can for that ONE day.
My goal for 2012 is to lose 20 pounds - it's never too late to keep going!

I thought about the goal I set and I've decided to revise it into something a little more realistic for me. I want to be in the 140's, even if it's 149 1/2. I was only at 145 for about 2 minutes and that was early on in my weight loss. I'm at 156 1/2 this morning, so that would leave me with 7 pounds to get to goal. If I lose anything beyond that, I will just consider it a bonus.

I am 3.5 years post RNY, I too have regained 20 pounds. I became a lax in my eating habits and allowed to many carbs back in. I am now tracking my daily calories on fitday and have started working out every day.
I am excited to get back on track and loose this extra baggage!

Nice to see everyone and to know I am not alone!!!! I used to say my surgeon was a voodoo priest because regardless of what I ate, I never gained back anything. (I knew it'd come back to bite me eventually!). It took 6 years instead of the regular 3. I have started using MyFitnessPal to track cals. I have GOT to get a handle on this. Not just because of the number on the scale either. I want to live long and be the least decrepit as possible. LOL

I haven't experienced what I'd call regain yet. I'm only a couple of years out from my RNY and did bounce back about 10 LBs. But I'm at a good weight. Regain does scare me, I don't want to put back everything I worked so hard to lose, I'd feel awful. I don't believe it's a failure to regain, but it is frightening and disappointing, and as Sharyn says pisses us off. I will keep an eye on this thread, to learn how to avoid it or at least how to fight it when it happens (notice I said WHEN, because you know it is pretty much inevitable)

There was the time that I could not keep my weight on and could not eat enough.. if I did not force myself to eat I would lose... then one day.. I did not have to force myself... and my RH (reactive hypoglycemia) got worse and worse... Ever complex carbs would cause that... And ... I stopped weight myself as often,,, before that I was obsessed with a scale... Then one day I step on a scale and I was 20 lbs over my lowest... but at that weight I was stronger and felt better, my BP improved, my RH improved..(or I got better control over that) ... so I really did not mind... 1 month later ... that was 30.... That day I realized that I need to stop gaining and lose the extra lbs... I went back on a program and ...lost the 10 lbs... the other 20... meh...i may keep them... at least 10... would not mind losing 5 lbs... but no more than that.
When you are MO, and older (as I am ) there is something like too thin... the skin does not look good, the body fat % is way too low, and in case you get sick.. (like I am now) there are no reserves... so even 2-3 days with limited food may make you really tired...
Now... I am on a track to lose at least 5 lbs. How _ simple - ulcer... (I think). The meds and the pain - pressure - sure makes my diet very limited ... the choice is: be in pain or hungry? I take hungry for 5...lol..
Now... maybe I can advertise that? "want to lose weight? get an ulcer...lol" just kidding.
