Cleveland Clinic is in the process of getting insurance approval to remove my band and revise to a RNY. What can I expect? The doctor says I'll be in the hospital for a week! With my band surgery, my ex husband (husband at the time) had had his band placed a week before mine. When he came to pick me up, he was so sick they admitted him 3 doors down. So I left the hospital and had to take care of 3 kids, he had emergency surgery that night to remove his band, so I was back and forth to ICU for a week. I didn't have a "typical" recovery....I had no recovery! So a week seems crazy to me.
Thanks!

Any reason why you have selected an RNY? The issues eating will be much the same as with a band, limited variety, very small amounts, blockages. The DS is a much superior surgery with less side effects and a more normal anatomy afterwards.
Whats your weight and BMI?

I actually had an RnY that didn't work for me. I think it is good to research all your revision options.

One of the main reasons I am going with DS is to have a more normal lifestyle as far as eating again. Unlike lap-band, not having to worry about food caught or specific food causing vomitting, etc. I know you can eat more with DS than RNY. What about in the long run? It seems the eating ability with DS stays solid even ten years out, where RNYers start having the ability to more normal as food dumps. So are we really able to eat more with the DS as far as the future goes?

The DS is a much superior surgery with less side effects and a more normal anatomy afterwards. Not always, unfortunately. I had a band-to-DS revision & ended up with these problems. I imagine that things would have been worse with a RNY, so I don't necessarily think that would have been a better option. I just want people know that you can have food intolerances & "stuck" episodes after a DS revision. Not everyone gets to enjoy big servings of protein & veggies. Best of luck with your surgery, Shelli
