My surgery was Tuesday morning and everything went fine. The nurses kept commenting to me yesterday that I looked really good. I wasn't in any real pain luckily and my vitals all stayed pretty good. Last night I went off the IV and was able to take Vicodin for the pain.
Dr. K stopped in my room early this morning and I was sitting in the arm chair having a few sips of coffee from my tray they had just brought me. He also said I looked really good and signed me out to leave the hospital. So I am sitting here in a hotel near the hospital catching up on some sleep. Hopefully I will head home tomorrow or the next day.
All in all I feel great considering what my body has just been through. My lungs are sore butI am using my little breathing exerciser and it is getting better each day so far. I can't believe how swollen I am though. My legs look awful but I guess that will all go down.

Sounds like you're doing great! Just remember to get your fluids and walking in! That's so very important. Also, I felt a lot better after using that breathing device a lot. My lungs appreciated it. Hope the rest of your recovery is smooth sailing!

Congrats and welcome to the Dark Side! Sip, Sip, Sip and Walk, Walk, Walk. When you're not walking keep those legs elevated. The swelling will go down and if it doesn't or becomes painful make sure you address it. I'm so glad to hear you're feeling and looking so good! Keep us updated *hugs*

I know it feels so much better to be resting at home away from the busy hospital. After about a week I went to the market, leaned on a market basket for support, walked very slowly all over the store. Eventually I was walking 3 major super stores in the mornings an hour each. Shopping was a great distraction physically and mentally. When I had the go ahead from my doc, and allowed to lift, at the wholesale club, I loaded my cart with some boxes of canned food to make it a heavier upper body and abdominal work out pushing it all over the store and back to return the cases before I checked out. Increased circulation helps prevent blood clots that may occur and speeds the healing process. I was advised by my surgeon to be active, and not recover in bed all day. Early on I placed a fleece small blanket folded over my abdomen to protect it from the seat belt. They say as soon as you can turn around to look over your shoulder you can drive. Be sure to get the go ahead from your surgeon before beginning any activities. Happy recovery!!! ;-) Sandra

Yay! Good report so far! Work on the sipping and the nice deep breathing with full exhales (use your incentive spirometer for this so you get the hang of it). Walk around the room a few times a day and you're golden.
