How long did it take you to get to goal? What was your starting weight, height?
I am 5'5", starting weight 335lbs, current weight 205lbs, goal weight 150.
The holidays have sucked! Also I have a hernia that I believe has slowed my weight loss.
I lost about 80lbs at 3 months and have lost another 56 since I got the hernia at 3 months. Gained 6 lbs since getting an ass load of holiday candy. All of that is now in the garbage.
My surgeon and PCP say I need complex carbs with every meal because my sugar is soooo low. Almost fainted yesterday and my finger prick was 69. I'm just pissed right now, at myself, for not doing as good, food wise as I know I should.
All I can do is start fresh today! I know this but hell, I'm pissed! At me of course. I just hope to get off the rest of this weight by my 2 year mark, which is in September! We'll see I guess!

Congratulations on the loss of 136 pounds! Your glass is half full. Yes, it is going to be a heck of a lot harder to lose the remainder of the weight, but it is totally doable with the DS. You know the rules and I can understand how hard it is to stick to them this far out. You can do it. You have a great support group of cheer leaders here so keep posting and keep on track. My blood sugar stayed very low as long as I was losing weight, so maybe that is a good thing. Now that I have stabilized, my glucose levels are rising too much! With the holidays over and no more excuses, you will succeed. You are an inspiration.

Heres my stats: Height 5'5" Starting weight 297 Doctor's goal 165 reached in 10 months My goal 150 (normal BMI) reached in 12 months
I have been on vacation and wouldn't be surprised if I've gained a few pounds but I weighed 129 before we left (I'm 18 months out)
You can do this! Back to basics....protein protein protein and low carbs.

Ruby It took me two years and two months to lose 100% of my excess weight. At five years out, I am effortlessly maintaining at 92% EWL. Quit being in such a damned hurry. It will come. ETA: I deleted a duplicate post. Dunno why it's doing that to me sometimes.

Ruby You've lost 69% of your excess weight, according to a calculation I just did. That is a big accomplishment. Remember average is 80-85% so you're almost there, but not everyone is average.
I dont think you're done losing, but even if you are, do you feel successful? Before my DS I would have walked on broken glass to weigh around 200 pounds. I bet at that weight you're darn near nornal - meaning your obesity comorbidities should be limited, and you should not be limited by your size.
That being said, I dont think you're done. As you get closer to goal it's a little slower, and you have to be more diligent but you can do it.

Ruby, I want to congratulate you on your weight loss success! You've come such a long way! 205 (which is what I weigh right now) is a very respectable weight. I don't know how you feel about yourself right now but at this weight I'm feeling so good about myself. i know I'm not "skinny" but I no longer feel like the fat one in the room. I just blend in--plus I actually FEEL good as well. You've done so well and are an inspiration to us all!
Hugs and hoping you get that alien baby delivered soon. Oh, and I'm 5'5 as well! Sher-

Scoob, you're kicking ass! Don't fret, my pet.
My stats: Height - 5'8" Starting weight - 320 Original goal weight - 140
I got to 160lbs by 11 months post-op and decided that was low enough for me. I was pretty damn skinny on my top half.

Scoob, I'm feeling ya. I'm a year out and I'm not as far down the scale as I'd like to be, either. No advice, just commiseration.

Thanks everyone!! I did low carb all day yesterday and I dropped 2lbs. I'm getting back on track! Yes, Sheri, I will have this alien taken care of on the 11th of Jan!
Joanne, I do feel 100% better then before. I wouldn't mind being overweight, I just don't want to be obese anymore! I can do this, hell I have the best tool out there. Thanks for putting it into perspective!

Hey Ruby! You've done a great job!! I remember thinking at the beginning of this whole process "I would LOVE to be anywhere below the 200 mark", and here you are. Just look at those numbers!!! Look how far you've come! You will get there...Keep your eye on the prize! You go girl!!!

You'll get there, don't worry! My stats: start weight: 325 original goal weight: 165 got there by 14 months out. I just wanted to be a normal BMI, but since I kept losing, I figured my body wasn't done yet. I ended up losing an additional 20 lbs. by 18 months out, and I've stayed within 2-3 lbs. of 145 for the last year and a half.

Thanks Gail for posting about low blood sugar. I may have the same problem, since my fluid and protein numbers are good, but feel light headed with my gym work outs, especially when my heart rate goes up on the treadmill.

Boy, now I feel like a loser, and not in the typical DS way. I'm 11 months out but have not lost anything since September. I actually added a few pounds, but I'm sure they will come right back off once I've reigned in my carb consumption and get back to the gym again. I started at 257.5, and have been hovering in the lower 180's. I want to get below 160 BUT I feel great now and wear size 12's so if it doesn't happen at least I'm happier and healthier now. So even if you don't reach your 'goal' you should be proud of all you have accomplished. Also remember that if you were SMO for any period of time, your bones will be denser = higher numbers on the scale.
Ruby - are you only 6 months out? And have lost 125+ pounds? Damn!

I'm still 9 pounds from goal at just over 2 years out, and still (slowly) losing.

Do hypothyroid D.Sers lose at a slower rate than non hypothyroid D.Sers? I feel like the turtle and the hare race to goal weight, I'm the turtle!!!

I'm also hypothyroid but didnt notice too much of a difference. It's not a race though. Try not to compare yourself to others. I know that's easier said than done, I did it, too, and always felt behind others. But I caught up, like I said, it's not a race. How is your weight loss so far, what is % of excess weight loss?

hang in there Ruby. After the holidays you will get back to work and it will start coming off again. It doesn't always constantly fall off. It gets slow. But don't worry! you will get there.

I just want to add that while you may feel great at a higher weight, don't settle for it. I mean this with no disrespect nor is this aimed at anyone specific. But, when we are obese for so long we get to a point where we say things like "a size 12 or 10 is normal and fine if I get there I'm happy" but the truth is that is still (for many, not all) in an overweight BMI. We can argue whether BMI is good or bad at another point but we aren't used to seeing ourselves THINNER so we end up settling. Far too often I've met people who just wanted a normal clothing size or an "under 200 pound" weight and that's exactly what they got ... and nothing more. Don't settle. Find a good healthy BMI goal and stick to it. It's not a race. You have a window to lose in but the truth is, our DS is magic and anytime you set yourself to the task you'll be able to continue losing (in most cases). Even if you are 3 years out or 6 years out. Don't worry about it! Just keep doing your best and you'll get there, even if it's not in some mythical magical window of time. It's OK!
