For those of you who don't know, I'm worried that I might have either a partial stricture or a recurrence (and worsening) of my esophageal motility disorder. When I try to eat almost any type of dense protein, it gets stuck & I throw up a few minutes later. Dr. Sudan said to go back to liquids & really soft foods for two weeks & then try to re-introduce dense proteins.
So far, I'm doing just fine with liquids, protein drinks, soups, Greek yogurt, mozzarella cheese sticks, & tilapia. Sometimes my vites get stuck (even though I take them one at a time), but they go down eventually. My esophageal & gastric spasms are more manageable now. I'm grateful for the progress I've made, but I've still got a ways to go. I pray that my body can repair the damage caused by my lap band.
Moral of the story: Revisions suck. Think twice & cut once.

Aww Shelli... Doggone it!
Sorry to hear you're dealing with this. One of my many mistakes was continuing to try and advance my diet regardless of the whole throwing up thing. If I could get in my time machine (or if I were, like, um... you!) I'd take this time of going back to liquids to really fully hydrate. Build up your reserves. Remember 64oz is a bare minimum because if you do have a stricture or the motility issues continue, you'll be throwing up and losing fluids as you diagnose it.
I really popped in to say I'm sorry you're having an issue but couldn't help myself from gettin' preachy.
Wishing you that rainbows and unicorns stuff... toot suite!

Just want to say hang in there honey. We are early out and the body has an amazing ability to heal.
But I second your thought - revisions suck. Wish we knew that BEFORE the evil band.

I 2nd, 3rd,4th and 5th, REVISIONS SUCK! That being said, I am going to commit to being more vocal on the boards so that information gets out there. I have been in constant communication with several revisioners and I know that as much as we researched researched researched several of us encountered unexpected complications. We need post the good bad and ugly for those coming up behind us. I don't know if I ignored the issues or just fixated on all the good stories of success......both sides need to be vocal, the difficulties are equally important to be aware of. We make light of so much on this board. We say, well it was simply an easily fixed stricture, or just a hernia repair or just dehydration, FOLKS THESE ARE ALL SERIOUS ISSUES. I never realized how serious, but we have got to stop minimizing invasive procedures, dehydration , kidney stones, infusions etc. Every procedure has the potential for serious complications. At this point my regrets far outweigh my results. I have not lost ONE POUND since I left the hospital on April 9th. I hope and pray this regret turns around and I have a great success story to share next year....but my reality is right now and it sucks!!

Shelli, I'm glad you posted, so that you too can get some much needed and deserved support. As I've said - repeatedly - no one should go through this type of experience feeling alone and isolated. And this is not a rooting section, it's a support board. There have been others here with complications who have talked openly about the problems they are encountering. I know that I make a point of referring back to my history as well. I don't just question the revision, but my first surgery - I love what you say about think twice, cut once.
I have to disagree with Cathi about a "lighthearted" cavalier tone here about the mechanical problems that can arise, like strictures, ulcers, hernias and so on. Cathi mentions that perhaps she focused on the success stories, and not the ones where there were problems. Having talked to her before her surgery I remember being amazed by how excited she was, like she was facing a procedure no more complicated than getting her tonsils out. Who was I to be a buzzkill, impart my own fears and apprehension, at least that's what I thought at the time. The reality is both - the numbers of success do outweigh the ones with problems.
This is an extremely fact-driven site, just very new and much smaller. No should ever head into a virgin or revision surgery of this scope without having a FULL understanding of what is being done and the risks. I don't think the intention is to be cavalier about some of these problems - I think many of us are pragmatic about them. As in, we knew the risks involved, and honestly? You just hope they don't happen to you. I went through hell after my RNY, and, my weight loss halted after 70 lbs and I remained obese. I don't want to fully hijack your post either. This surgery is NOT for everyone and my heart aches for people like you Shelli, and the others, who are going through such difficult problems. I want to scream - as I did for myself - how unfair it all is, when all we want to do is be healthy, and we have to endure so much. I went into my revision having lived through these problems, knowing they could happen again - it was the chance I was willing to take because it was right for me, and I went in with my eyes wide open. I figured god forbid I had problems, I'd cross that bridge then.
I think this dialogue from people who are going through some really awful things but have been holding back, fearful about sharing, reluctant, is very important. I know that I've personally reached out to people to encourage them to please share their stories for just this reason - to get help and so that others can know all that is possible.
So I exalt you Shelli for sharing your story, and I hope we hear more from you soon.

You are incorrect Sharyl. I had the RNY and realized how serious that was, and I was VERY aware of the radical procedure I was about to embark on. I believe MOST of us on this board get very excited, anxious and nervous prior to surgery. It was my first time meeting you for goodness sake. Was I expected to dump all my fears on you, not my style. Dr K WOULD NEVER operate on someone who did not understand the procedure. My excitement lay in the fact that finally, there was a cure for my illness.......

Also, to set the record straight, my complications did not arise from the DS procedure. The DS procedure went just fine. There are circumstances that led to my complications that are NOT DS related.

Shelli, sorry for hijacking again, but this is all very healthy discussion, which I hope does help you, and, you know that you've helped how many others.
Cathi, this was in support of you, not a criticism. I even felt bad, wondering if there was something else I should have said to you at the time. I'm going by what you have shared. What you are going through is difficult, and I think many of us here try to be careful about being supportive and respectful. This is a support board, the good and the bad. I hope your health issues resolve!

Please understand that if it were a DS issue I would MOST CERTAINLY be posting on the board. I have amazing support at home and I love coming here for the DS stories, good and bad, and nutritional/vitamin information. It is indeed a wonderful community.

Just because my complication is not a result of the DS, I still stand by the fact that revisions suck. It's my opinion for many reasons, reasons I have explained....ummmm the recovery is longer, we have a longer hospital stay, we have a feeding tube, our weight loss is slower, we are now on atleast round two of major surgeries....I could go on and on....they do suck. Love that saying, think twice, cut once. I think the basis for that is because revisions do suck.
