in my stomach like a bowling ball Is there a way to improve this and make it go through? I made the cake and ate less than 1/2..then urrgghhh.... I put whole wheat (whole grain) flour in the batter. I was allowed crackers and toast etc..on the 24th. I bought some low carb bread and tried a grilled cheese sammich last night. I thought I was going to throw up, I got less than 1/2 of a 1/2 down. This morning, I tried a piece of toast and every time i took a bite, I gagged. Could I be gluten intolerant (permanently or temporarily). What are the symptoms? I feel like diddly squat me

I love her shake cakes. I make it, let it cool, make a few slices of it and toast it in the oven. When it comes out I load it up with butter or low carb cream cheese. I find that when I really want something like this the best way to do it is with plenty of fat. If not it does sit in your belly a bit hard.

I can eat the regular shake cake without problems, but couldn't tolerate LC bread, etc for about 6 months. I remember being in misery after a few bites of a grilled cheese sandwich.

I microwave mine for a shorter amount of time, to the consistency of a melted chocolate lava cake dessert type thingy. Then I splash in either 1/2 and 1/2 or cream. Not my favorite way to get protein, but good comfort food and nice for once in a while

I just made one this morning, since I can't drink the shakes. I used the regular method (Kayla's). It was tasty, but after about 3 bites I was done! Adding whipped cream made a huge difference.
Now I've used up all the chocolate protein powder... I only have vanilla and banana or something left. Any luck using those flavors?

I make Eggfgaces Banana cake which uses vanilla powder I imagine Banana powder would be good in it too.

Thanks, VM! I'll probably give it a go... the powder's just gonna sit there anyway. Though, this thing has been sitting in my tummy all day. I'll wait another week or two and give it a shot again.

Bummer...I've been wanting a grilled cheese so bad but the nausea just ruined it for me LOL. I don't think it's gluten intolerance. I think you just pushed your healing gut too hard. Back wayyyyy up on the type of food intake, even all the way to liquids, for a day or two and let your belly chill out. Then you should be fine again, and you have learned what to avoid. If you want grilled cheese, then grill some cheese! Bread is optional. Queso fresco is especially nice for that, or haloumi cheese.

Have you tried Kayla's recipe? It doesn't have the flour in it. I'm 3 1/2 months out and I still can't finish the whole thing. I do find that adding some sugar free syrup on top makes it go down better. Sugar free cool whip also makes it go down better. Here's the recipe copied from one of her posts on that other site (and a link in case you want to look at the pics: Here's how I make high protein chocolate cake. It's guilt-free. 1 scoop protein powder (I used designer whey vanilla) 1 T unsweetened cocoa powder (I like special dark/dutch processed, but it doesn't truly matter) 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 1/2 T veg oil (or canola) Sweetener of your choice** (I used 1/8 tsp stevia extract, but you can use a liquid sweetener such as SF torani/davinci syrups, splenda, sweet n' low, etc.) If you use splenda, start with 3 packets, may need 4-5 depending on personal tastes. It's actually really yummy with the SF syrup, so try using those if you have them! WATER** (It's going to be 1/8-1/4 cup based on the protein powder you use, and the sweetener you use...texture should be like brownie batter) If you use a SF syrup...use less water. Optional add-ins: vanilla extract, instant coffee, salt Mix ingredients together...taste the batter, it's yummy. pop in the microwave for 30-35 seconds (yes, that's it). Don't over-nuke or it will be dry and yucky. It poofs up a lot in the microwave! Don't be alarmed Please taste the batter. If the batter isn't good, the cake won't be either. I used a 16 oz corning ware ramekin. They are about $4 if you don't have one. Otherwise, a really big mug or bowl will probably work well too. www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/4391069/1st-posting-for-chocolate-microwave-protein-cake+Pics-high/

Thanks, EN. I hadn't thought about fresco. I just got back from Sam's but I'm sure I'll be at Walmart next week. I made fresco once before and it was delish!
I like Kayla's cake shake *but* the chocolate is too dark for me. (Course it took me about 15 tries to get it right) Has anyone played with the recipe to reduce that dark chocolate taste? Even with the whipped cream it's just too much.
I want to get an ice cream maker so I can make some of the ice cream protein. I would think I could use soy milk or lactaid. Can't wait!

hoosiermama, the eggface recipe I have for the shake cake makes 4-5 servings, not one. You ate half of it? That could well be part of why it is sitting so heavy

No, about 3/4 of what I put on my plate. That was maybe 1/4 of the cake not counting what dropped when I tried to flip it. It was a normal serving. It took a few hours and finally settled. I had scrambled eggs for breakfast They sat very well.
