I had my DS Oct 14 and I'm loving it. I'm down about 55 pounds so far. I feel great and I can't believe how well I've adapted so far.
I'm not currently measuring/weighing my food that I'm eating, but I'm wondering if I should be. I know I get 30 grams of protein for breakfast with my shake and I have just been guestimating on my other protein foods.
Thank you!

i dont because i am lazy. I eat from a 5oz ramekin often, so i know i am having 4-5oz of sour cream- or 4-5 oz of taco meat, so i approximate things like that

No, at least not in the traditional Weight Watchers sense….but for the first 6 months or so I did measure my protein portions to make sure I was getting in enough protein. It's second nature to me now, I can tell by eyeballing a portion. I also make it a point to go a little over what I need, to allow for some wiggle room.

I use the nutrition labels on foods like bacon for portion size and protein totals. I have a thick cut bacon- 5g protein for each pc. If I'm too tired or rushed with a tight schedule, I take a pre mixed shake, or two to keep in a small cooler in the car, add a protein bar and a turkey stick if I am out longer than expected. Its easier to tabulate the protein and carb totals with these prepackaged foods when you are on the run. On our driving trip to Florida I used bottled water, small Nector packets, and a hand battery mixing wand, all blended in a travel mug with a top. At the end of the day its easy to gather up the empty wrappers to see your protein total. Of course home cooking is way better for healthy eating a majority of the time!!

I don't do shakes, so I measure everything I eat to make sure I am getting adequate protein. After a while, you get to where you can look at something and pretty much know how much it weighs/measures.

for my first year as I lot the weight, I had a scale on my kitchen counter and always weighed my portions to track the protein. I had a book I carried with me everywhere, and I wrote in it all that I ate, (I only "counted" the protein). The ritual helped me stay focussed. I also had cryptic code to track BMs in the book, so I could see how my food choices were affecting the output. This was a tremendous help in learning my new system.

The closest I do for measuring is to eyeball it to figure out how much protein I'm getting.
