Hello,
So, what were some yummy soft foods that enjoyed (or are enjoying) 2-4 weeks out of surgery?

I ate egg salad, tuna salad, tomato soup with cheese, refried beans, cottage cheese etc. But you want to take it slow as some of these foods have different effects on different people. Gas can be so painful.
Welcome to DS land!

Hummm, good question. I haven't found that I am hungry for ANYTHING since surgery. But I've eaten something my mother in-law made--it's a sort of quiche. It's mostly egg, shredded zucchini, a some onion, and a little flower (to keep it together) and baked in a brownie pan. It's soft like scrambled egg and I tolerate it. It's very flavorful so I don't feel like I'm eating just eggs but it's soft enough that if I take really small bites and eat it slowly that I can eat it just fine. As far as soft soupy things, I'm craving clam chowder--which I'm pretty sure would be ok for most people 2-3 weeks out. I also tried some beef stew sans the beef but I ate some very soft cooked veggies and the broth. I also enjoy cottage cheese quite a bit and occasionally string cheese eaten in very small bites and well chewed.
I'm just 3 weeks out now--and my stomach is still very small--the restriction is really really bad right now. So I can take 2-3 bites of something and I'm done. To make it worse, I'm not hungry most of the time but I know I must eat. Then when I get hungry, I end up feeling like I wish I could eat more than I have room for so eating VERY slowly is key. I had some salmon the other night and was able to eat 2-3 small bites--it was so good but I just couldn't eat any more than that.
I think my diet is pretty boring right now but I'm just hoping that in a few months I'll be able to eat more and enjoy more food. However, I can't imagine ever being hungry again! (though I'm sure I will--one day).
Hope this helps!!!!
Sheri

My favorite protein hot drink at your stage was clear protein beef broth- 15g of protein, packets easily dissolve in warm water. Never tired of them, had several a day for many weeks. Find them on line, or at GHP, if any one else in Grand Rapids Mi reads this. Nector unflavored or Unjury unflavored protein powder mixes into anything you enjoy eating or drinking. Great for reaching your protein daily goals.
I made a soup in the blender with steamed spinach, canned artichokes, parmesan cheese, this protein beef broth and low fat cream of mushroom soup(optional cream can soup, or substitute any low fat cream soup). Entered my recipe in GHPs hot drink contest and won. It's now an award winning recipe!! Have fun creating your own veggie hot drinks in the blender.

All good suggestions and I tried many of the same. Refried beans with cheese melted in were one of my go to items early out.

How about Wendy's chili? I'm almost 3 weeks out. Is it too soon to try that? I've only had tuna salad, eggs, greek yogurt, cheese cubes, string cheese, etc. My surgeon gives us larger sleeves (4-5oz), so I can actually get in a relatively decent sized portion when I do eat. Just wondering if ground beef is too much at this stage.

When trying something new, just try one bite at a time, slowly - and see how it sits. If you dont tolerate something, wait a week or two and re-introduce it.

May give it a go, though I have a suspicion that the ground beef will be too much for me. I'll eat a teeny bit, and see what happens.
Tonight, though, it's shrimp cocktail time!

Most of my early foods are on here already. Wendy's Chili made me puke, but I ate the insides of a Taco Bell taco with no problem.
Scallops and tilapia worked okay early out as well, and so did a little bit of chunky sirloin burger soup.

I'm still eating my early foods at 4 months out, because my freezer is full of them!! What comes next? The insides of Taco Bell burrito are dangerous!!!( just kidding)Had my first last week.
Refried Bean soup ( canned refried beans from Sams, add home made chicken stock and cheddar cheese melted in it, dollop of sour cream on top. Freeze extra in single serving mason jars. Add unflavored protein powder to thicken before serving, to increase protein power.

I lived on crabs and egg drop soup. Tuna with TONS of mayo also sat ok (I mean TONS).

I love the new profile picture!!! Thank you so much! I am down 25lbs so far. I couldn't see a difference at all in the mirror, but when I took a photo and compared, I could see a lil chub missing from my face. Huzzah! ;D

Huzzah! ;D Me too-I couldn't tell that I'd lost anything because I was wearing sweats, but after taking a pic, I realized that i look like a different person. I've lost 22 pounds since surgery. I've decided to ignore the scale like the vets say and just focus on how my clothes are fitting. I'm down about 2 sizes! You do look amazing!!!! I exalt you!

Unfortunately, I haven't lost any clothing sizes yet. My jeans are a little bit looser, but that's about it. I'm sure it'll happen soon enough. 2 sizes is awesome! Great job!
