Saturday we took a road trip, 2 hours each way to a International Market. It was fun except I was constipated and felt like I had to go the whole day. I wonder if anyone uses glycerin suppositories, they are supposed to produce a bowel movement in 15 min to one hour. It would have been a blessing last Saturday morning.............I am not having ongoing constipation issues but do have it occasionally and wonder if this is a good option for us DS'ers.

I don't have any experience with them, but adding some steamed green beans or spinach, with more fat along with your meat helps. I cook the chicken , steak and pork chops in left over bacon fat. Mix a little Miralax in your protein fruit drinks regularly too. Papaya tablets, or fresh papaya works too.
Suggestion for long driving trips: Stop and walk often, to get things moving, and release trapped gas, or it can cause painful cramps. Avoid gas producing foods a few days before you leave. Try to stick with your normal diet on the road. Trying out new foods for fun on a trip really isn't as much fun as you think!!!

I got one at the hospital after surgery because my innards were uncooperative. They do indeed work pretty fast.

They gave me one after my DS surgery at the hospital. Works fast but I have to say, try something else first. Once it gets you moving you don't stop for a bit and the cramps weren't too much fun either (YMMV). When I get stopped up I load up on some extra fat for the day and it normally works.

Thanks for the help. I do try to eat right for my DS but it happens sometimes and when I am going on a trip I need something that works fast. Sodium phosphate enemas can be somewhat dangerous for older people (I am 64).

My GI doc has me take miralax or if that's hard to do (traveling) I can take senna tablets before bedtime.

You need to work to prevent the constipation or run the risk of big old problems.
Check out Mag Oxide which you can can add as needed to your vites and also check out VitaLady's constipation program.

Per my:
PCP 2 colorectal surgeons gastroenterologist
They are absolutely 100% safe to use, even regularly. I have to use them frequently.
It is best to get the problem worked out before it gets all the way down there, but in some cases, you just don't and therefore, it's fine.
I would not depend on enemas because of the electrolyte problems they can cause. Plus, I feel like enemas are soooo much more invasive and not as gentle as a suppository.
I have some sort of prolapse/muscular issue down there and they really help me.

Hi,
My body is really persnickety. If we travel I almost always run into the problem you experienced, although not quite to that degree.
I have had success by increasing fluids in a crazy manner beginning a couple days before traveling. I also wake up early enough to get things moving before we leave. I increase fat and add fiber, like a bowl of raisin bran before bed.
My body also gets all bent out of shape if I don't sleep well for a few days at a time or if I slack on the protein intake, especially shakes.
Hope this all helps. Maybe next time you won't need to feel bad if you can find some preventive measures that work for you.
