My doctor is P.Kemmeter, Grand Health Partners, Grand Rapids, Mi. My nutritionist is Christine Becker.
My husband is from New York, I am from Los Angeles Ca. Being an artist, I am always looking for creative, new innovative ways to do things, I admire people who do the same, discovering better ways to improve everything in life. I actually never live within the "box", my kids say what box? I understand creative thinking, and not following rules, or advice from professionals. On the other hand, living with a doctor for so long, I hear why following medical advice is so important. He is a strong N.Y. personality, excellent in his field, he is told, and appreciated by his patients for his compassionate care in women's health.
As far as D.S. and drinking, I actually drink most of my protein because my stomach feels best with liquids rather than solids. I have tried to eat a bit with drinking, but the solids do limit how much protein I can get into me in a day, and make me feel way too full with low protein totals. The first month post surgery, only warm protein beef broth was easily swallowed. Cold drinks and water caused a spasm in my throat. Its been slow going eating real food, happy to now be able to eat meat, and more solid protein.
Everyone does find what works best for them, by" trial and error". Sharing information can only improve our experiences with D.S. leading to improved health, everyones goal. I am here to learn, and help others drawing from my experiences, I do not have any medical training.
I am a strong personality, and I believe everyone who has had the D.S. is also very strong to have chosen a surgery few know about, and few surgeons can or do perform. After surviving cancer this year, I have more of a take charge power from within to make changes to survive, become stronger physically with exercise, and mentally direct my healing process in the most positive direction I possibly can. We are becoming warriors against obesity. The battle to beat obesity is one of the most difficult medical battles because we are fighting it alone from within without the aid of medicines as in other medical illnesses. Any outside help from support groups, lectures, nurses, doctors, trainers, on line education, can only strengthen our arsenal in a war which is a losing battle for most non surgical weight loss program people and most surgical weight loss people. We D.Sers have the best chance for success, especially if we can at least support each other emotionally through our communications.
