I'm going to be going to a consult with Dr Stewart next week and would like to get others experience. I'm starting to get scared with all the risks and complications I've read about regarding revisions.

A sleeve to DS revision is much easier than other revisions. He'll perform the intestinal part of the DS. Do you think you need to be resleeved? That's where it could get a little tricky, but all in all it's much easier than dealing with an RNY or VBG to Ds revision.

Some days I think i can eat way to much then there are days when I barely eat anything. In general I can eat a whole hamburger from In & Out and that's it nothing else is going in, and lots of time I can't even finish that. My VSG surgeon started off with a bigger bougie size then most do (36F). When I had my upper GI done in July it said that my sleeve was stretched and dialated not sure about that one I had done last month. I'm picking that report up on Tuesday. I do want to thank you for your KIND reply.

You are in great hands. I would recommend you find out what exactly Dr. Stewart is planning on doing for your revision. From what I have read about him, he is very skilled and knows his stuff.
Good Luck! SH

I would highly recommend Dr. Stewart! He is a very skilled surgeon. He did my RNY to DS revision. Best wishes with whatever you decide.

The consult went well. He said that he might shrink my sleeve, but won't know until he does a scope. I'm starting to do the pros and cons of revision. My husband seems to be on board completely now I'm the one second guessing doing it. I know I can live by the rules. I guess I'm just worried about the unknowns.

You can never plan for all the unknowns. But can be prepared to be committed to the requirements and diligent about your nutritional needs post DS. Ensuring vitamin adherence, protein and fluid intake and regular labs will help make you successful and avoid most complications. Always remember this IS NOT an option and is mandatory. Complacency has no place with these requirements. Educating yourself about the DS is also highly recommended. Good Luck to you and keep us posted. SH

I would think you're having an addition instead of a revision since you're just adding the intestinal part. I think you'll have a much easier time than "traditional" revisions, or rather those people (like me) who had a totally different kind of surgery and then were revised to something else. You have the DS stomach, now just getting the intestines done. I've heard great things about Dr. Stewart so I'm sure you'll come through just fine. Good luck!

I'm getting all my labs and such done like I'm moving forward, but deep down I'm freaking out. I can adhere to all the requirements (don't get me wrong on that I have done the research). I'm having troubles with the unknown and the complications I keep reading aren't helping me much (I'm not looking for them just in posts). I have three kids and husband to come home to.

I consulted Dr. Stewart and loved him, but due to insurance issues, had to use a different doc. I was a band to DS revision and so far so good! We are all scared so that is normal, just try to breathe and know you will be okay......for all the complications you hear of, there are alot of us that didn't have any!!

The better the surgeon, the lower your chances of complications- and you've chosen one of the best in the USA! Dr. Stewart performed my virgin DS a year ago and I had no complications. Has your tummy been scoped yet? If he doesn't need to shrink your stomach you're probably looking at a much easier recovery than you think. I'm not an expert on revisions, but I think the one that has the hardest recovery is the RNY to DS revision. You're going to have a much easier revision then that since he won't have to do as much work on your stomach. Vets, feel free to chime in and correct me if I'm off the mark about that.

I was revised from the RNY to the DS four weeks ago, and I'm doing really well, and this was a BIG surgery. I had complications with my RNY, a second surgery 4 weeks later, infection, hernia a year later. It was awful, on top of my weight loss grinding to a halt, getting nowhere NEAR my weight goal. No one does this to have surgery more than once, any more than we get married to get divorced. But it happens. Someone here pointed out that if it were a heart bypass or something similar, if it failed, we wouldn't think twice about going back to get it fixed. I was definitely nervous about having surgery again, but in the end, it just couldn't compare with the pain and misery I've been living in for 8 years after my RNY. Converting the sleeve to a DS is a far less complex surgery. There are, always risks in any surgery, but if you are in the hands of a competent surgeon, that risk is minimal. I think because we might view WLS as 'elective' we have fears, guilt, extra anxiety. But obesity is an illness and this is the tool to fix it, and we deserve the very best there is to really get well. I wouldn't change one thing I've done now, other than wishing I'd been able to have the DS in the first place, Dr. Keshishian as my surgeon, and done it in my 20s :-) But I focus on the now and looking forward. Glad you had a good consult and just keep posting for support!
