I am feeling "normal" for the first time today.
With that said, it is a "new normal" I have gone without pain pills even though I still have some twinges in there. I eat so much less food, and am thoroughly satisfied with it, that more than one person has expressed concern. Ha Ha! I know I am right on target at 1/2 cup per meal. Protein always first. I had to figure out my pills so that I didn't need to take them at mealtime, because there is not room enough in there for both. I carry a water bottle around with me wherever I go. sip, sip, sip. I am walking more, and scooting along with my walker less. They have me doing over 2 hours a day of physical and occupational therapy, so I figure that is enough exercise. Yes, it includes walking!
I just feel happy, and not only glad that it is over, but really glad that I did it~ I really feel like I am into a whole new part of my life. A healthier, thinner, more self-satisfied part.
I should have counted the number of people who complimented me on my hair today. I didn't do anything different with it. I think it is them noticing that my face looks different already, but not quite being able to put their fingers on what has changed.
I'm lovin' my DS!!!!!!! ~Lisa

Woohoo on feeling normal! It's all downhill from there, I hope! I am not completely weened off the pain meds yet, but I'm down to 1 a day. Usually I'm in pain when I wake up in the morning from laying in one spot all night. Other than that, I'm good. 2 hours a day of therapy would wipe me out. I don't know how you're managing that! Glad you're giving the DS some love and not having buyers remorse. Go you!!!!

Sounds like you are doing better than most. 2 hours of OT and PT - holy COW!! I couldn't do that now at 6 weeks out!

Yeah, I thought I was smart, and called my surgeon on Monday, to complain that they were pushing me too fast, and to ask my surgeon to call the PT department here and ask them to cut back to the 30 mins exercise a day the surgeon had prescribed.
The joke was on me! They talked on the phone, and my surgeon told the PT dept how pleased he is that they are having me do this, and that it will "speed my recovery" But, it is getting easier each day, so I guess it is ok.
Thanks for all of your good wishes. I am in the process of making a re-entry plan for going back home after all of this time. If I go, I won't be able to get back in here very easily, so I have to make sure it is the right move before I make it.
I am getting excited, though.

Getting past the initial pain hurdle is great. IT sounds like your stomach is doing really well, I couldn't take more than a few tablespoons of food for the first month.

Congrats, and very impressive, you sound really good and really on top of things! I'm new here, I'm 3 weeks out from a revision from an RNY to DS. My road was a little bumpier, but I'm doing really well considering the scope of the surgery I had. Wishing you a continued smooth, uneventful and successful recovery.

That's awesome, Lisa! I haven't had the DS surgery yet but I know from other surgeries I've had that you get a little better each day. Keep up the hard work and rejoice in the little victories. They all add up!

HURRAY! Glad you're moving right along . That PT and OT is fantastic. Embrace it and keep it up. You are going to be astonished at all the changes. Here's hoping that you'll be fully ready to return home sooner rather than later. I bet it'll happen just that way .

I got the same weird compliments about my hair the first two months after my DS. Now at three months out I am getting compliments when I get together with other WLS friends for coffee or lunch... such as: "Oh! Look at YOU! You still have all your HAIR!" WTF? I guess I'll take that as a compliment too. LOL!

Welcome to the dark side! The PT will help in the long run, although it seems brutal now. Keep up the good work!
