Hi Jamie, My doctor didn't believe I had a leak until I showed him my party trick of drinking a Gatorade and then 5 secs later the drink showed up in my Yates Drain bag. Thank goodness it resolved itself in about 8 weeks.

Jamie, I'm really sorry to hear this. My final complication (I think) was a fistula. It was frustrating to have already gone through so much and then have that happen. Just know that this is all going to get better eventually. Stay in touch with Dr. K and stay on top of everything yourself. You can do this.

Hey Hon, I had a leak. Had crapband removed Lap in spain as a self pay, had a small leak which had to be drained in spain after developing an infection, collapsed lung etc. In the public hospital in Spain, no english speaking nurses, at least I didnt have to pay out of the wazoo as I am a Uk national and as such get free healthcare within european union countries. came home with a drain that ewas removed after another 3 weeks. % months later had cripping abdo and between shoulde blades pain, raging fever . Had ct scan with contrast, leak had dripped away slowly caused huge infected abcess which was removed at local hospital in Flirida HUGE MISTAKE, had to transferred to teaching hospital trauma center in Orlando and have another surgery...discharged after 3 weeks...still not right so flew home to UK and was fixed up by the best surgeon in the UK at University college in London, but nearly had to have a complete gastrectomy in the end, which was avoided at the eleventh hour thank god. Stomach now looks like a deflated pillow with 2 belly buttons due to all the incisions...and I was still sick at the end of the 1st post op year...my weight plummeted to 110 (I am a big boned 5ft 6) and my Mom told me afterwards that she really thought I was going to disappear as I was so sick. If this infection had been caught earlier things would have been so much better for me so please don;t delay in getting help..it wo;t go away. You're in my thought but rest assured you will recover, I'm fighting fit today and love my DS - so there is light at the end of the tunnel honey!!
yorkie xx

I get the majority of my fluids in. One day, GREAT!!!!!!! Over the minimum. And the next day it will be about 10 ounces shy. Th JP drain fluid looks dark green... sometimes looks like cola syrup. The amount has decreased, but sometimes....... it can be alot more than I expect. I get on a plane Thursday nite, that is a few days from now. I will be in Dr. K's capable hands very, very soon!!!!!! I know you will be well taken care of. (((HUGS))) Thank YOU for the hugs!!!!! I am also, and have been NPO as well.

You would think that your doc would want to rule it out, as opposed to disagreeing with you!!!!!!

Ya, I know what you mean. We love Dr. K, and we don't want to really be mad at him. I think it's a crap shoot period when you travel for a major surgery like this, because the after care can be a royal bitch. And you traveled 3,000 miles! He wouldn't have released you to go back home if there had been any sign of a leak or infection. Unfortunately it developed after you left :-( IF you don't want to wait any longer, don't be shy about asking him. I don't know what the green color means, but try to get him on the phone Monday to discuss that and your scans, if anything to relieve your mind. I will be seeing you SOON my dear, to give you a big, but gentle hug. Thank you, Sharyl!!!!!!!! I REALLY, REALLY NEED THE BIG HUGS. I know there are people on here who disagree with me waiting up here in Alaska, but Dr. K is in e-mail contact with me, and I have his support with the present situation. I don't disagree with you per se. Actually I'm in awe at your tempered steel nerves and backbone!!!! Pure terror would have long since driven me back to CA, there to encamp until I was allllllll better. I would have long since had a complete nervous breakdown if I were in your shoes. So that's what drives my urging to get BACK THERE..... I'm chewing my nails here on your behalf, thinking of all the things that could suddenly go wrong . On the other hand, it would also be nice to get through this NOT bankrupt from the expenses of sitting it out in CA longer than needed. So I admire your ability to tough it out for that reason in spades. Two more days. NOTHING will go wrong. I decree it. Ow. My nail beds hurt.
