I can't figure out how to get my vitamins in without enduring at least half an hour of bad nausea. I've tried it on a full stomach, an empty stomach, halfway through a meal, and no matter when I do it, the result is the same. I have bad nausea for about half an hour after.
Did this happen to any of you? Does it still happen? Any ideas?

Did this happen to any of you? Does it still happen? Any ideas? If I had to guess, there's actually 2 things going on here. First, you may just be trying to put too much into your tiny tummy at once. Try to split your vitamin doses in half and take them 1/2 to 1 hour apart. Second, and this is purely from my own personal experience, vites on an empty stomach are BAD. Mine came back up every time I tried that. It's so bad (still, at 10 months out) that I'd rather wait and push my whole vite schedule back an hour or 2 than take them on an empty stomach. I usually need to eat around 1/4 to 1/2 the volume of a normal meal first, then take my vitamins. Say, for example, a string cheese. Then, if there's room after another 10 minutes or so, I can eat more if I want to. If I haven't eaten within the last hour, I have to have a snack with my vites. Simple as that.

I can't do vites on an empty stomach. I have my AM protein shake (well, protein coffee) and then take them. and for me, it's the multi that causes the most problems and I can only tolerate Centrum chewables. Any of the bariatric vites or a multi that you swallow is guaranteed to come back up. I don't know what the heck is in them, but barf city.
and that was even preop (funny story...I started taking some GNC multi in college and every AM I used to barf at work. My coworkers were CONVINCED I was prego. Nope, just my multi. I switched vites pretty quick after that to avoid the gossip).

There is no rule that says you have to take them in the morning. Spread them out during the day and see how it works.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I might try a few different brands. I can't take this nausea!

Update: I bought a container of Country Life chewables, and for the first time since surgery, I had my multivitamin without nausea. Hurray!
Now that I've conquered this, I'm going to work on calcium and Vitamin D.

I took vitamins that were in a capsule. I broke open the capsule and mixed it in my applesauce.

I feel ya sister. Vitames are my bariatric 'bete noir.' I have the same issue with nausea -- even a year post-op. I also take thyroid hormones, and that adds another 'wrinkle' to the timing saga. Here's what works for me:
Centrum Chewables Citrical Gummie Calcium
I am now on prescription Iron (HEMAX) which I take with Vitamin Water Zero (Lemon) so I have vitamin C in my system at the same time as the iron. It's a horse pill, and I just drink as much as I can to get the thing dissolved in my sleeve before I get the 'argh, I want to hurl' feeling I get from taking big pills or supplements.
A caution about the Citrical Gummies -- they have a LOT of sugar in them, like 7g per serving. If I was in weightloss, I wouldn't take them.
A caution about Centrum Chewables -- they have iron and calicum. Calcium interferes with iron absorption as does dairy, coffee, tea, whole grain. Just taking a multi might not cut it for iron.

My surgeon wants me to eventually take a separate iron pill and a separate calcium pill (not at the same time), but I haven't yet worked up to those. I'm just pleased I can have some vitamin intake without feeling like hurling.

Vites are like protein powders, you may have to search around for ones you can tolerate. I take Trader Joe's adult hi-potency chewable, and tolerate it pretty well. I take TJ's sublingual B-12 (a cute little pink thing that dissolves really well), a gummy D3 from Vitamin Shoppe, BA's calciium chewy bites and a chewable iron, also from Vitamin Shoppe. The only caps I take are my Biotin and my probiotic. And my Protonix and Lipitor are pills.
