Ok. About a week ago, I changed things up by re-introducing a double scoop protein coffee a day. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get over 70 grams of protein a day on just food. So, I bit the bullet and added the coffee.
From the first day I had bubbling, rolling, farting and even runny dh. Not good. I was using sf syrup so I wondered was it the protein powder or the sugar alcohols. Then, since I was getting 52 grams of protein, I could have a piece of whole grain bread and still get my protein in...was it the bread?
I've eaten bread since my surgery so I'm not gluten intolerant, or am i?
Today, I've had no gluten but I had a protein shake with the sugar alcohols and 2 scoops of powder. No gas, no extra bathroom trips, no rumbly in my tumbly.
Is the gluten things sometimes temporary or could this just be one of those things...I don't want to be gluten intolerant...Don't wanna..don't wanna....

Good question! You should try to avoid the bread for a few days to just see if your tummy does fine with the protein coffee. Then, try a slice when you know you can stay home for a bit to see if it happens again. I think that you will then have your answer.
I hope it was just a fluke!

Renegadeorange's advice is good.
It might still be a bit early for your tum tums to have wheat gluten. While it might not shred your tummy since everyone's mileage is different, it could cause a little upset. If it does turn out to be the culprit, you can always try it again a few weeks later.

You may find if you drink you shake at a different time than you eat your bread that might help. It may be the two together making the reaction. Karen

I had a similar problem with a 1/2 roll, but not with oat meal. Usually I don't have bread. Staying away from all carbs if I can.

I could also be just that particular bread that is causing the problem. I an eat one or 2 certain breads but not others. You just have to figure it out one thing at a time.

The root of my eating problems was not the roll, but the eggs benedict that morning. I was allergy tested yesterday, found out I am allergic to eggs and shrimp. My doc suggested an elimination diet to see if any other foods are causing my symptoms. Journaling everything I eat, not all allergies will show up on the 65 poke allergy test he said!!! He suspected gluten, asked me if I was gluten free, as he read my list of current foods. I may have gluten issues, but have been gluten free since D.S. surgery. My edema went way down because of it.

I am now gluten free. There's a crapload of stuff I miss, but I'm finding substitutes. A little bit of gluten will send me into bathroom & swell hell for days. I get stop/start diarrhea, pain, a very swollen abdomen (I put on a sweater dress and swore I had a baby bump), and I feel completely lethargic.
I can eat rice, potatoes, and corn with no problems. I did get gassy after using the Bob's Red Mill shortbread cookie mix, but that mix had a lot of sugar. My own shortbread only takes 3 tablespoons of sugar, so I will redevelop my recipe with a mixture of rice and other flours.
I've had some really great non-gluten meals and I've gotten together with other DSers who are going through the same thing. A few of us had a pot luck and the food was great.
I borrowed Gluten-free living for Dummies from the library and read through it to get a handle on this. So far, so good.

Thanks for the gluten update, I'll need to figure out more variety for my diet, once I reach my goal. Low carbbing it for now.
