And normally I would post in the R&R but this is DS related....so here goes:
I had my one year checkup at my surgeon's office on the 24th of Jan (now we do not actually see our surgeon in that office once the surgery is done), just the nut and whoever else they think we need to see...in my case, the exercise physiologist. (who is also an idiot but that is a different rant)
I weighed in at 135 (wearing clothes but no shoes/socks) and my BMI was, according to their calculations at 5'3" (I'm 5'4" at my PCP) was a 23.9. They almost had a cow that I was under a 24 BMI.
Now,the nut proceeds to tell me that I need to lose NO MORE weight and even ADD 120 calories to my diet, until I reminded her that a DS'er doesn't absorb like a RNY'er, then it magically became 300 more...told her that thanks to their insistence to be retested for sleep apnea, I would be undergoing surgery to correct a defect that was found...I only have 4-5 apnea's an hour but my oxygen dropped to 68%...
So I am being evaluated by an oral & maxillofacial surgeon to correct the issue...apparently my tongue, deep in my windpipe is too big and cuts off my air. Since I had back surgery in 2006, I can not sleep on my side or stomach. However, it means my mouth will be wired shut and he told me I would likely lose another 10-15 lbs.
IF I did lose 15 more lbs, I would still be above a 21 BMI...perfectly normal and well within what my PCP and I agreed on.
So I got a call today from the nut...Dr. Boyce is having a cow that I would be losing below a 24 BMI and insisted I come in once a month to be weighed (can you see dollar signs?).
Told her since I was already being seen by my PCP once a month for most of this year so I can be evaluated for excess skin and they always weigh me, I would prefer to do it that way.
Dr. Boyce may be an excellent cutter but his office and some of his ideas are screwy as he does NOT require the same of his RNY patients...they can lose as much as needed as long as they don't go below an 18.5.
I even mentioned to the nut that a normal BMI is 18.5 to 24.9 and I was no where NEAR the bottom...and wanted to drop about 10 more for bounce back which usually happens...If I stayed at 24, my bounce back could easily put me back into overweight...and I had worked too hard to do that.
She also had a cow over my Vit, D (140 something), my vit A which was high normal. I'm NOT taking their vitamins, I am on vitalady's list.
THANK GOODNESS for my PCP, however, I do have to deal with this office at least 2 times a year for my lab slip.
