I am catching a cold and I am only 3 1/2 weeks post-op. I am really leary about taking medication now...especially huge pills. What can I take cold medicine wise that will not affect me at this stage?

Tylenol for aches and fever. If you have coughing, there are sugar free cough syrups available.

I'm fond of TheraFlu. It's a hot liquid, very soothing. Contains Tylenol, a decongestant, and a cough suppressant. Comes in a sugar free variety.

At the onset of cold symptoms, I start using Olive Leaf Nasal Spray by Seagate. They have a sore throat spray that works well too if that is a symptom. It usually knocks it out before it gets me down. I had never used it before and happened to be in the Health Food store getting vitamins and stuff and was getting a cold at the time. The store manager recommended it to me, and I tried it and have been using it ever since. I have chronic issues with my sinuses so I was skeptical.

I would recommend Vitamin C-chewable if tolerated better- in 2 divided doses of 500mg each. Works great!

Tylenol has a liquid cold formula as well. It is bright orange.

BTW...I made the mistake of taking Alka Seltzer Cold medicine. It helped with my cold but it's a HUGE no-no for RNYers.
