Good evening everybody,
I got a little question. I got most of my vitamins from vitalady but bought my Kirkland Multis and Vitamin C myself. I saw that Costco has Calcium Citrate as well but it does have some Vitamin D and Magnesium in it as well.
Is anybody using it or should we stick with Calcium Citrate without any Vit D or Magnesium only??
I do have a little assortment of protein powders and already made drinks as well to try and see which ones I can tolerate after surgery. I saw that muscle milk has a light version as well. I didn't go for muscle milk simply because it has alot of sugar. Has anybody tried the light version?
Thank you for your help

Vitamin D and magnesium help calcium to absorb. If you have problems with any diarrhea, I would avoid anything with magnesium oxide as it can make that problem worse. Magnesium oxide does not have much elemental magnesium in it so I take magnesium citrate (pill form), I take the mag oxide to help with pooping. The D you get with it is going to be minscule for what you need. Take it if it's a good price and the mag ox doesn't bother you, just be aware that the magnesium and the D are not going to be enough so you still need the additional D and Mag citrate.

Regarding Muscle Milk: I can't seem to choke down most protein shakes--even ones that everyone seems to like. I can however, swallow the regular muscle milk--especially the vanilla one. I know it's higher in carbs but it's what I have to do to get some nutrients down. It's basically my only source of protein.

Yes I use the Muscle Milk lite, for quick grab and go, drink it in the car. It is a bit thick, but its a small amount to get down. Use the vanilla for night. The choco tastes better, but may keep you up at night. I have trouble getting to sleep anyway. Its lactose free and SF. The big bottles of MML come w/caffeine, or without. Walmart has the best prices for the sm MML in Michigan.

You might want to save your protein drinks to try post op since everyone says your taste changes and what you might like or hate today might be the opposite post op

Thank you guys. That helps. I do have small amounts of different protein powders to try after surgery but saw the lite muscle milk. I will get one or two and try.

I take the Kirkland Calcium with the D and Magnesium, and I haven't noticed any side effects. Sometimes I get a little constipated, but considering the litany of things that will bind me up at the drop of a hat, it seems unfair to blame the calcium. The Muscle Milk Light tastes ok, but they're a little heavy on the carbs/skimpy on the protein IMO. I prefer to get the Premier Nutrition RTD shakes when I'm at Costco (chocolate tastes good, vanilla is meh). They have 30g of protein in 11 oz, and they're great for the days where I'm running behind or just need a protein boost. www.premiernutrition.com/protein-shake.html

I didn't even do the light Muscle Milk because of the carbs. I second the suggestion for Costco's Premier protein shakes - much lower in carbs, and most people seem to like the taste. My Costcos only carry the chocolate in RTD, but that's fine because I've yet to find a flavor of RTD shake I like other than chocolate

Thanks for the tip with the Costco's RTD protein. We shop there anyways and will try it for sure. At the moment I like chocolate better than vanilla but then again that might change after surgery.
