About a week ago I was having some serious issues with gas and diareah. I went to my PCP who thought I should go to gastoneorologist. I went and he said I may have an infection and gave an antibiotic and flagyl. I read on the other board what it does to your gut and it did. During this process I've had zero gas and my bowls are getting back to normal. After I finish my course of flagyl does the gas come back immediately??? I'm going to see my boyfriend in a few weeks and don't want to be embarrassed and wonder if I should keep a few pills around?? It has worked wonders for me this far.

Flagyl is a serious antibiotic and I am in the camp of only use as directed and when needed so you don't build up a resistance to it, then it would be useless to you for infections.
*I* would start back on probiotics as soon as you are done with the Flagyl and stay on them. Your gas and other issues should be cleared up and if they aren't you may need another course of Flagyl.
I read about people using it so they can eat carbs and whatnot and not suffer any gas issues and I don't agree with that but that's me...

I agree that I would not use Flagyl unless I needed it. I want to be able to use it and have it work if needed later. Hopefully, it did its work and you won't have gas issues. Be sure you start a good probiotic right after the course of Flagyl.

I've been on this for 3 weeks for my abscess and had no clue about the side effects you are mentioning... As far as saving pills, you should definitely take your full course.

Take the full course. Though, you may need another course in the future. And that is what follow up visits are for.
I did need flagyl for an extended period of time 1-2 years out or so, but my guts have since then been behaving much more nicely.

I plan to take the full course. Before I started the flagyl I had started a probiotic. Hopefully after this round things will stabilize with my gut. Thanks for the good advice. I will be done with this round this week and having a follow up with the doctor.
