A scant week since the drainage tube from my abscess was removed and 5 weeks after surgery, I returned to my job as a 6th grade teacher today... The adults were warm and friendly, but discreet-- No one was like, "omg you lost so much weight!" so that was good. The kids were really happy to see me and refrained from commenting on my weight, which was good. I told them a little bit about my surgery and my limitations and they were receptive (for now!)
As far as how I felt... It was tough getting up at 6am and gathering all my food, vitamins, and so on together before leaving the house, but I did it. I didn't stand as much as I normally would, but even sitting up straight on a stool was tiring. I had to go the nurse's office during lunch to lay down, not sleep, just relax. It was just sensory overload, you know? I managed to make it through my one class after lunch, left right at the bell and headed home. I resisted taking a nap so I can get to sleep on time. It was slightly overwhelming and I'm just glad to be back in my armchair! ;D

Too bad you can't go back to work part time for a bit, as that's not possible as a teacher. Glad you got to lie down. Lying flat is much more restorative than sitting that's for sure.
Hope it continues to get better. I'll bet you sleep well tonight.

Wow, you went back to work already, and you work with kids! Glad you have a supportive work environment and you can rest in the nurses office. Do you have fridge there, might help if you could keep some food there so you don't have to schlep as much.

It had to be challenging. I dont think I could have gone back to my job, which is mainly a desk job, at 5 weeks. Kudos to you for doing it. Hopefully some extra rest at night for a few more weeks will get you over the hump.
Congratulations

Congratulations on getting back to your normal routine. I am not sure if you do this or not but something that has helped me. The night before I will have everything ready to go from meals placed in the refer, clothing and whatever I might need that day. I find this helps so I don’t have to think.

I have a fridge in my room and we have ice and a water cooler which is cool. In the past, I have tried not eat in front of the kids (it's cruel when lunch is at 1pm) but that is out the window now... I teach at a magnet school, so the kids are really good for the most part. And I explained to them that I was still healing and need them to be on their best behavior We will see how long that will last!

Kids are great arent they...last time I babysat my nephew he informs me "you might be a little chubby" as we were discussing a bully at his school and how its not ok to judge someone just because other kids call them fat or skinny etc. Im amazed that hes 9 and has never mentioned my chubbiness before and thought it was sweet that he referred to it as just a little chubby hah.
Wishing you sweet little angels during your recovery and many good nights of sleep!

Glad to have the fridge and cooler, that can definitely save you some time in prep 'n schlep. Still can't get over you've gone back to work teaching kids. You've taken great control of the situation, mighty impressive.

Glad you made it through the first day, i think that was the biggest challenge for me, just changing my routine. I was only out for 2 1/2 weeks, but have a desk job. Hang in there, and don't overdo.

I went back to work after 4 weeks. I work from home and was still nodding off at the computer. I would have to take frequent breaks just to relax in my recliner. But it gets better and you will too! Keep up the great job.
