I didn't need one at all, and I was a hell of a lot bigger than you are. Tongs or a wooden spoon will work just fine, though.

These sorts of personal care items can get darned expensive if you're not careful, so I'm rethinking some of the items that I jotted down months ago and asking myself, Do I really need this?

I'm sorry. I had never heard of this before and the images that went through my head. (Hangs head in shame). I had lap surgery and had absolutely no problem with this at a BMI of a bit over 50 along with my age. I used tissue and baby wipes to assure cleanliness. No tongs needed. Getting my old toilet to flush what came out was another matter entirely. If needed, I'd spend money on a super flush toilet I didn't go in the hospital, it happened when I was home. hth, me

Oh god. Now this is something I hadn't even considered. I'll be recovering with my parents and there's just no way I'm going to let them wipe me!

I would not bother with the Bottom Buddy. But I did take wipes with me, and they where flushable so I didn't have to worry about putting them in the garbage in the hotel. I love these and still take them with me when I travel, just in case. puretouchskincare.com/Good luck

OK
If you can wipe your ass now, chances are you will be able to after surgery.
Even open surgery.
There may be a few who cannot and they can grab a cheap pair of tongs and wrap the wipes around it. Voila!
Not to worry.

I didn't have any problems. There was no way in he11 I was letting my hubby wipe me! I'm sorry, but there are just some things that I would never "share" with my hubby. There needs to stay some "mystery" in our relationship. ;D

I never needed anything. I was worried about that but, never bought anything. I agree that you probably won't need it.

I'll probably shave a few items here and there and get realistic! I posted it to help others who might need some ideas, though, just in case. There's a zillion of us pre-ops right now!

If you can take care of yourself now, you should be able to do so after surgery. The porta potty next to my bed at the hospital actually made it more difficult. This may be TMI but if when finished with your business, stand up and put one foot on the toilet and then wipe. This saves bending at the incision site. I was dealing with no pain killers starting the morning after surgery so I had to move gingerly, but was able to take care of myself. Within a couple of days there was no problem at all.

I will once again sing the praises of my bidet! Worth every penny!! I couldn't agree more! Still, to this day, I love that thing. I was so psyched to find one with every conceivable bell and whistle for a mere 200 bucks. I'd looked at others with those features for over 1000, and the ones that were under 500 were cold water and no frills. I got so lucky, and have a squeaky clean butt with zero acidic poop / fissures / hemorrhoids issues. LOVE it.

Directions to a shopping site, or even just the model name and number, please?

I use to wipe by reaching around the back. I couldnt do that maneuver after surgery so i started wiping (or patting really) from the front. You wont need that wiper gadget BUT I third the bidet. I have just the little personal model for $15. Worth it weight in gold! This is the one i use: www.amazon.com/Blue-Bidet-BB-20-Portable/dp/B004IW5ITO/ref=pd_sim_hpc_1And wipes lots and lots of wipes:)

I heard that if you don't have too much trouble wiping pre surgery, then you probably won't have too much trouble after surgery. I never had a problem wiping (my BMI was 41 before I lost weight pre-op). After surgery I still had no problem wiping. In fact, I got my period while in the hospital and not only did i have to wipe, I also had to put a tampon in (pads make me sick) which takes some maneuvering and I managed to do it on the first day after surgery! I brought tongs with me just in case because I'd heard that I might need it but honestly, all I ever used from my list in the hospital was my book, my tampons, and a pack of wipes I brought to wipe my hands if necessary. Of course I used my tooth brush as well.
