I just had lap surgery 11 days ago. Underneath the skin at the biggest incision site, it feels kind of hard. That one hurts worse than the others, of course. Just wondering if this is normal.
I was just at the surgeon's office yesterday, and he said the sites look fine, but he didn't press down on them. I didn't notice this until today.

Heya, I had the same but 7 weeks out now, the site has softened now that the port wound isn't so inflamed and is almost healed.

Which incision are you talking about? The one under my left side of my ribcage is also kind of hard and has been tender since surgery. It's actually the only actual pain that I've had but it's been minimal. I go in tomorrow for the post op and we'll see what he says. But it's softened and hurts less than it did last week. And the swelling has gone way down. Actually, all of my incisions have healed over and the scabs are gone! They're almost invisible!!!!

Nice! Mine is on the opposite side. I hear a lot of people say that their left sides are painful, but mine are all on the right. lol It's the biggest one, and the one that's hurt the most the whole time. I think it's where he removed everything.

My surgeon had to double the size of my right incision because I had a gallstone the size of my gallbladder. It was one big stone and he tried hard but couldn't get it through the regular trocar incision. He removed the gall bladder, appendix and stomach through the right side and I still at 5 weeks have pain when I stretch on that side. I also had a lump that would come up and go down underneath that incision....I haven't felt it in a while now. He took pictures of my surgery and my gall bladder and removed stomach for me to see. Kinda neat but that stone was huge LOL Unless it's hot to the touch or really uncomfy, I'd give your body time to heal. me

Mine was also on my right and felt like it had a walnut just underneath it. My surgeon said it was where he removed the left over stomach, and my band......so that is why it felt "hard" and was more sore than the others!!

So, then, ladies, how many incisions do you have (not including the drain site)? I have 6--one towards my right hip bone (assuming that's the intestinal part of the surgery but that one is on my tattoo so it's invisible to the eye), then there is one INSIDE my belly button, then there is one under my right boob towards the middle, then two really close together under the left boob towards the middle (not literally UNDER the boob--beneath it), then the big one on my left side where I'm pretty sure they removed the stomach. I also have a drain hole scab on the left side of my stomach sort of high and that tube went into my stomach (i sooo remember when it was removed--eek!).

There is one right next to my belly button though Oh, and I SOBBED when they removed the drain. Straight up ugly cry..couldn't breathe crying. They said it wouldn't hurt. They were full of shit.

I don't remember it hurting, but the nice doctor (it was the assisting surgeon) was kind enough to warn me that it would feel like my ORGANS WERE BEING PULLED OUT!!!! It didn't hurt, but it was the strangest feeling and so very uncomfortable.

My pain was VERY poorly managed when they brought me out of anesthesia. I remember crying and yelling for them to help me because it hurt so badly. But once they got me on the morphine drip I was good. I'm so sorry you had bad pain management. That should NEVER happen.

Morphine worked wonders for me. I was on cloud 9.
I have 6 incisions, about in the same areas. Mine isn't in my belly button, but very near it. Since you were smaller, Sher, that's probably why! I didn't have a drain...
I can't wait to sleep on my right side again! I've slept horribly the last 4 nights. I have to hug the hell out of my body pillow, or it feels like my stomach's gonna fall out. lol Sleeping on my left isn't painful, but sleeping in one position all night isn't working out so well. I guess I should just be grateful that I can sleep on my side at all, and stop whining.

I must be immune to pain meds haha..I ended up with Dilaudid which apparently is morphine x10 and even then..pain was still there. If anything, toradol worked better (NSAID). I can sleep on my right side sort of..I am just paranoid! I always end up back on my back though..and I am a dedicated side/stomach sleeper. I tried laying on my stomach like a week out and it felt so weird (not painful..just weird) so I gave up.

I had my 2 week post op and found out what all of those 6 stitches are about. The one on my lower right side was a hole for the stapler and also where they removed my stomach. The one higher up on my right was to work on the stomach and intestines. The two on the higher right are for working on my stomach and he had to cut twice because they had trouble getting around my spleen. then the other big one on my lower left was for another stapler. The belly button was the camera.

Yes, I had a hard knot on my upper right side. It has since gone away and I feel great. My Dr. told me That I was one of the hardest DS surgeries that she had done, mostly because of a damaged gall bladder (that I did not know about) she had to do that part of the surgery a different way. I guess i am lucky that it dd not turn into a open surgery but it did take her more than a hour longer than most of her DS surgeries.

Yeah, turned out that my appendix is in a weird spot, so he couldn't get to it without possibly harming my liver, and I also have some form of diverticulitis. Instead of a bunch of small pouches in my intestine, I just have one or two big ones. Maybe that's why I've always had weird stomach issues.
It's funny the things we live with without knowing it.

But it's good to know thought right? I wondered if I had diverticulitis as well but he made no mention of it. Was he going to take your appendix? Did he take your gall bladder? I kept all of mine--taking those organs isn't something he likes to do unless he sees cause. So I'm going to have to watch my gallbladder pretty closely. Sheri

Yeah, Sudan always takes gallbladder and appendix. The gallbladder was out without a problem. He said that diverticulitis and appendicitis can have the same symptoms. So, he wanted me to know about it in case I ever found myself in the ER. :\ Hopefully that won't happen.
