Does anyone know any reason why we should NOT bother with calcium caseinate protein? I read that it is slower absorbing compared to whey. Of course, you'd think that after almost a year of this DS stuff I would know whether slower is better than faster, but I am kind feeling "duh" with this one.
There is a new protein powder product by a company I like, but I don't want to invest in it without knowing this.
Thanks! Pam

Whey protein is a dairy product and I have problems with that. I've never heard of calcium caseinate protein. For me it has always been egg white protein as it is more easily absorbed than other protein powders. It tastes much better too.

I don't know about this specific product. Casein is another milk protein, more slowly absorbed than whey. For that reason it's probably not ideal for us, but that doesn't mean it's not perfectly adequate. Weight lifters often do casein late at night so that they will absorb it slowly during sleep.

I'm assuming you mean casein protein, which, as mentioned, is more slowly absorbed. This can be good if you're looking for something to keep you feeling full longer, but it can be bad in that you might not actually absorb as much protein from it because it will flow through the stomach faster for us than normal people.

Casein is slower, but after a year with your DS, you have presumably gotten the hang of things without getting protein deficiency, and can probably eat a fair amount. and therefore, it probably doesn't matter.
