I dont know how long this allergy will last and im completely baffled by it since ive not read that anyone else had come down with such a bizzare allergy but soy lecithin is the absolute devil!
Last Friday a friend offered me a pc of gum. So i took one without even thinking with in 15mins of chewing it i was so sick i had to go home from work early. Checked the ingredients, sure enough SOY LECITHIN!!!
A local Natural Food store opened up and we happened to be there for the grand opening. I couldnt even sample all their little treats cuz i was afraid of the dreaded lecithin:(
I have been dying from some warm chocolate chip cookies found a few low carb recipes so out i go grocery shopping to collect my goodies. Well guess what, ALL chocolate has SOY LECITHIN in it!
Ah, i think it just the larger powers that be telling me i dont need that crap!!! So im mostly on a all natural diet because they put soy lecithin in almost everything processed. Better for me YES. Pain in the ass DEFINITELY!!!
Thank goodness ive been able to train hubs to look for it on labels. He can be sometimes hard to train and he does the grocery shopping;) So thats one positive! HAHA
Ok my spleen feel better now:) Thanks for listening!

How did you narrow it down to soy lecithin? Sorry for the inconvenience but glad it's keeping you on the straight and narrow.

I took me a few day but when i was about 5 wks out doing great then all of a sudden everyday i was feeling horrible. So i started food journaling since i knew it was from eating cuz i felt bad about 15-30mins after eating. Im always been lactose intolerant but ive been able to eat cheese, chobani, butter, half and half. i gave up ALL dairy so there would be no confusion on that.
Thru food journaling i noticed i didnt feel well after eating over easy eggs, peanut butter, protein shake and a few other things. It was really my protein shake that helped. It only had 3 ingredients in it. Egg protein, splenda and soy lecithin. Id had splenda in other products so i knew it wasnt that.
I googled soy lecithin and found out it occurs naturally in egg yolks and peanuts and is add to many other things as an emulisifier. Once i cut out all product that had soy lecithin i was 100% again.
I can eat scrambled eggs, must be something with it be thoroughly cooked and i can have PB baked in cookies.
Its hard cuz you never know what it will be in...one tortilla but not the other, same with breakfast sausage, some sauces like hot wing sauce. Then there are some things that are totally off my list like chocolate and gum:( The only protein shake im able to drink is plain egg white powder.
It sure does help keep me way from bad foods!

What a thing to have to narrow down to, especially since it seems to be in so many things. Wow. I'm glad you were able to get to the root of it. Is this just something that happened after surgery? I wonder if it will be an ongoing issue for you, or one of those things that lightens up with time, like lactose intolerance. Reagardless, I feel for you.

Thanks Jolly Rancher:) It happened after surgery at about 5 wks. I HOPE it will get better with time. Im afraid to even eat out because of it:(
