My life changed thanks to Dr. Elariny and the DS. For those of you who know me, you know I work at this every day. I take my vitamins, eat my protein, drink my water. For those of you who may be considering the DS, look at your life and how you live each day. It's a lifetime commitment but I look at it this way. Had I not had the DS, my lifetime would be considerably shorter and alot less fun. I consider myself fortunate. I haven't had any complications - no blockages, no additional surgeries. Yes, I have osteoperosis but I'm treating it. I've dealt with anemia. But in the grand scheme of things, those are minor. I had severe sleep apnea before my DS that required a pacemaker. Had the pacemaker removed about a year after I hit my goal weight, when the apnea completely disappeared and has never returned. Have surgerversary to me

Happy surgerversary, indeed! So glad for you, and thanks for posting this. How wonderful that the apnea and pacemaker are no longer with you.
I will second the thought that there IS vigilance involved in living with a DS, but it's been so very worth it for me, too.
Wishing you many more healthy and happy surgerversaries.

JPCello, that's what I get for not getting on here frequently enough lately. I missed your surgerversary!! Happy Surgerversary! Might I add that you are a true example of how I wish to be when I am 13 years out. I listen to you and heed your advice. Thank you for contributing to those that are newer to us and guiding us along the path. I'm amazed you haven't had any complications as I've had hernias, blockages, muscle problems, etc. Like you, I still wouldn't change it for the world. I do wish I had your smooth path, though!
Congratulations and thanks for being such a great role model!
Enjoy your month, Kelly

I'm so sorry I missed your anniversary too! Congratulations on such a healthy success story. DS, surgery definitely takes dedication and vigilence; and I like to think it is the firm hand guide needed to learn the valuable lessons many need for living sustainable healthy lives: putting ourselves first, doing what it takes to be well. The supplements, keeping an eye on blood work, keeping the protein levels up are worth every moment of the return. And thank you for ALL the time you have devoted sharing your experience and knowledge helping others.
