..this is the whole story! My surgery is scheduled July 6 with Dr. Boyce in Knoxville, TN! Please pray for me and my family! ~~Thanks, Krista
RNY in 2001 with 130# weight loss. Kept weight off with no problems until 2011. Regained 80# in the past three years after I stopped working outside of home and had a traumatic life event. Tried many ways to lose weight. Found a group on Facebook about WLS regain and heard about revision surgery. I was skeptical but thrilled there were others besides me who had regain after WLS that I could talk to. Many talked about the different types of revisions. I googled the area I live in and Dr. Boyce was #1 in the search. I went for a consult and he recommended DS. He put me on a 1200 cal/day diet for weight loss and to shrink my liver if I have the surgery. I didn't know about DS, so since March 22 I have researched like a mad woman day and night. Went for follow up appt April 2 for psych evaluation (also during the two weeks between appts saw PCP for referral letter for weight loss and labs were drawn per my PCP to clear me for recommendation) h pylori testing, barium swallow and q & a with surgeon. He submitted me for approval through insurance pending results of tests. The psych consult was 569 questions, and a 45 minute one in one with the psychologist. Well this past Friday they called and said I was approved. I still wasn't 100% ready to commit at that time. So endless researching continued. Last night I finally decided I would call and schedule today, knowing this would be right for me. I had a failed RNY (barium swallow showed dilated pouch and stretched stoma) and the DS is so much better overall. I'm not going in this anticipating a major weight loss, I just want a better anatomy and to be healthier overall. I go back to him in Knoxville (about 3 hour drive) on June 17 all day for pre op work up; meet with nutritionist, meet with exercise guru, get further info on surgery, etc. I'll be doing about three days worth of activities in one LONG day since I live so far from them. I'm so grateful they are working with me on that. Then I need to be at the hospital 5:30 am July 6th! Oh, I had to pay $1800 out of pocket, and 20% after deductible was met. Thank you all for everything! This site is incredible!
