Just heard from Sharyl. She is at home now. The anesthesia was the easiest she ever had. The surgeon did the component separation and said he removed a lot of skin along the vertical incision. She is in pain, but other than that, it all sounds good!

Well, as you can imagine, Sharyl is not going to be working out today. She has lots of pain, especially when she gets up. However, she is making herself walk up and down the hallway. Meds are Norco and valium for muscle spasms. She has a follow up with the surgeon today.
She asked me to thank you for all your kind words, thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the updates, Monica. Please tell Sharyl to take it one day at a time and that I hope with each passing day the pain quickly subsides. Get well soon, Sharyl!

Sharyl pretty much knows the drill and I don't think she will push the envelope. She said the first week is the hardest. Of course, IMHO, this procedure should have required at least an overnight stay in the hospital. It doesn't sound appropriate for a day surgery. But that's what it was.

F A B U L O U S N E W S ! ! ! !
Sharyl had a follow up at the surgeon's office today. He did it! HE TOOK ALL THE SKIN AWAY! She said when she found out, she burst into tears. She has a different opinion of the ladies in the surgeon's office, now, too. They bonded while she was fighting the insurance company.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to drop in quick so say 'hey' and thank you all for your words, thoughts, support. The relief I feel to have a full restored abdomen, inside and out, is hard to to describe. I apparently was fortunate to also dodge a couple of bullets, my intestines were poking all the way through and my surgeon said he was surprised I didn't get an obstruction. So grateful for the care I've had through this whole process, starting with Dr. Keshishian who stayed with me through the referral to the my current surgeon, Dr. Obeng. Pain, oy pain meds and something for muscle spasms, antibiotic to keep away infection. Light kind of eating, not much appetite, mostly toast, scrambled egg, peanubutter, protein shakes, thai chicken wonton soup or chicken tortilla soup, cheese. And thank you to Monica/west4thavenue for being such a good friend and angel.

Welcome back, Sharyl! Great to hear you're doing well. I was away just before your surgery - did you ever get final approval for everything you needed for the surgery from insurance, or did you have to pay out of pocket? Take it easy, girl - I'd try to give you advice after my abdominal surgery, but you have far more experience with these surgeries than me - hopefully, this will be it for you for the last time! Feel better!

I have the attention span of a gnat, I'm so swollen - even my ankles and feet, god knows what that has to do with my abdomen And the pain is a whole new league experience. Sleep a lot, but that's probably just as much due to my work schedule leading up to surgery, which was grueling, the toxic boss managed to kick it up several notches, you know, to punish me for leaving her. But I can sit, talk, type in spurts thanks to the peaceful effects of Nocor and valium for muscle spasms (who knew!) I fought the insurance company to the bitter end, the day before surgery - two appeals, two peer reviews with Dr. K since of course they still called him first, not my surgeon doing the surgery, and then my surgeon spent an hour on the phone with them. I figured if the news was good they would call, so I didn't ask and just went into surgery Tuesday. I always knew this surgeon would do the best he could taking away skin, but was completely gobsmacked when I went for my follow-up and he before he removed the binder to have a look, told me he took away all the skin, it was his gift to me. Even as I type these words, I shake my head and my eyes well up with tears. Restored inside and out, and I just hope this is the last hernia I ever have, that 3 really is the charm. Thank you again for all your support, I appreciate it so much, I'll be back more when I'm feeling more like myself.
