Is that the anti acid or gas stuff .. i know they have that in my iv Two different things. Things like prilosec or prevacid are PPIs - acid reducers or eliminators. The only thing for gas are things like Gas-x or to not eat too many carbs

I meant when you are released from the hospital, get on a PPI. Omeprazole is available OTC.
What I would do is take 20mg omeprazole in the am and 20mg in the pm. I'd do that for 6 months. Then I'd drop to 20mg in the pm only and see how that worked.
I find it alarming that a PPI is not part of every DS surgeon's postop instructions.
Gas is a different story. You're going to be gassy, it will take a long time to figure out what works and what doesn't - and it will change and change and change again with time.

No. Zantac is ranitidine.

Now to really give too much information - I came home from surgery this past Friday and it was horrible - terrible nausea and cramps. I've been married just 19 years and 1 thing my wife and I have NEVER done in front of each other is have a BM - farting is ok though her's aren't intentional mine are (per darling wife) oh and her's don't smell. Anyway, first night home - crapped the bed by a somnolent fart - I've been so upset by it that I now where depends over my underwear for fear of reoccurrence - I too have extreme diarrhea but feel it must be do to liquid diet. Hope that story makes you feel better! It will be funny years (many) from now!

About 15 years ago, I became violently ill in the middle of the night from food poisoning. We were attending a reunion and staying in a hotel. After losing control of myself in the bed next to my darling husband, I spent the remainder of the night in the tub, going from both ends. It was dreadful.
The next morning I could not bear to leave the sheets for some poor hotel maid to gather up and launder. I took them out to the dumpster and gave the hotel money for them because I was so humiliated. So fine. But my husband, who was so kind and reassuring...well, let me tell you that it's still not funny. The memory of that is not a happy one.
Post op sucks. I know. But I can understand wearing the Depends. It does get better.

I had a experience similar to Michael's just once a few years ago with my spouse of 8 yrs. It was SO not funny at the time! But we have laughed about it on more than one occasion. Humor has become big part of our relationship through the years and I don't think we could survive some days without it. Go back 8 yrs when we met....I was the most reserved, proper, easley embarrassed person. In my first 13 yr relationship, my spouse didn't know ANYTHING about gas or any bathroom issues. I wouldn't even go if my spouse was home. That person would have been MORTIFIED! Right now, 10 days out, not out of the norm.. It will get better, especially once you start calcium.

Calcium never affected my stool in any way, still doesn't. Trial and error, trial and error.

Diarrhea is normal for many reasons, a LOT of work on your intestines, an RNY to a DS. Very important you stay hydrated. You can pretty much count on the first 6-12 weeks for being challenging while your insides heal, progressing slowly from liquids to soft foods and up. You HAVE to start thinking of scope of the surgery you just had and understand it's a process, very much like an infant to toddler to preschool. It will get better but you have to get through this early healing stage first, and proceed carefully, baby your insides.

Yes, completely normal.
It should progress from diarrhea (all water) to loose stools (liquid feces). If by two weeks out you haven't progressed to loose stools, it may be time to get checked for c-diff.

The former is normal but the latter can be a problem if persistent. It is important that Cheryl make this distinction as if is truly diarrhea she needs to see the doc and get a C-diff test.

Well I called it diarrhea cause it came out without me trying and it turned the water brown. . Today I had the same cramps ran to the bathroom but no diarrhea. I pushed a little and muddy type poop came out. No water turning brown and I could see little blobs of brown things. Ok that's enough gross talk. Ha ha ha

Perfectly normal. Just wait until you start eating fat and it is coated in orange oil.
