Day 2 not good. Had to.have O2 all night to keep stats out of the 80's. More bladder problems today. Having to sit a long time and push the pee out but still having residual. Can't tolerate anything but grape Gatorade. Switched to Percocet orally after scare with my bp dipping to 86/40 today on dilaudid. Belly bloated. Feeling awful. Definitely can feel where he did extra work by removing gallbladder, removing adhesions and repairing the hiatal hernia. Mixed emotions about planned discharge tomorrow after getting ultrasound of legs to ck for dvt's. Praying I feel better because that 5 hr drive will be a killer. Everything can wake up slowly, like the bladder, and the bowels are last. I'm glad you found a better pain med, and right now fluid wise, go with whatever works, and you'll get some electrolytes from Gatorade. Is there anyway you can stay another day, until you are at least out of this immediate post-up crud, esp since you have a 5 hr drive? Let them take care of you a little longer? Hang in there, first week is the hardest!

Well my b/p was still low even after switching to Percocet, 86/33, so they with held my bp med and just gave me Tylenol before bed. Blood sugar dipped down also to 65, so they had me drink undiluted apple juice.
Just checked again now at 3:30am and b/p was 86/46. They turned my fluids back up and checked blood sugar, was 73.
I've never had low b/p or low sugar before. Nurse here says it's common after surgery and she seriously doubts he will hold my discharge . But that's not helping my nerves.
My pain scale is not high, probably a 3-4 and I don't even feel bad now. So wtf?

Nurse just checked b/p again at 4:20am, 87/46. So she said I probably need a bolus of fluid, since doubling fluid didn't work. I've had O2 on to keep sats up, but every time I close my eyes someone walks in. VSG to DS 7-01-14/ Dr Boyce, Knoxville, TN /Age 40/5'8"/HW 287/CW 270

The bolus helped. Finally got a normal bp. AND I PASSED GAS!!!!!'!!!!!!!
Belly is gurgling away.
Saw my surgeon and he said JP drain can come out and I can be discharged after ultrasound of my legs and paperwork is done. ;D
Whewww! It was a hard night but thank God for my turnaround this morning!!

SO glad to hear it! That second day is a beeeeeyach. For the ride home, make sure you have plenty of fluid for the ride, maybe a pillow for your back, and hopefully you are in very stretch comfy clothing, shoes that don't require you to bend down to put on!

Day 4 has went pretty well with bp back to normal and only needing Tylenol....until the diarrhea started. I've been to the bathroom 6 times in the last 1 1/2 hrs and I'm wondering if this is expected or if something I'm drinking is adding to it. I guess I naively thought all the loose bowels wouldn't start this early. Its wearing me out tonight and by the rumbling I know it's not gonna end anytime soon.
Comments or suggestions welcomed.

Oy, well, diahrrea not uncommon this soon, your bowels rumbling from all they've just gone through. I know its weird when you're just on liquids, don't think it's anything you've consumed. Just make sure you stay hydrated. I'd say if it persists more than a couple of days get in touch with your surgeon's office.

and frankly, diarrhea at this point means you aren't constipated from the pain meds so as long it tapers off that is a good thing and means that the bowel is moving well. Do your best to get as much fluid in as you can, and get your rest.

Well diarrhea has continued all night and today. My bp has returned to normal. Nausea is pretty intense. If the diarrhea continues, I think taking an Imodium won't hurt especially since I'm only taking Tylenol for pain.

Take it. It will not hurt you and it will help stop the diarrhea. You are losing a lot of fluid. You will feel better.

It is all that fluid leaving your body and perfectly normal. If you are drinking anything with sugar, that could cause you problems, too.

Funny thing, as soon as she returned with Imodium, diarrhea stopped So gonna hold off for now. Getting lots of fluid it. And they were very specific about getting in 30 grams of carbs a day while on just liquids so I'm doing low cal grape g2. Gonna try a lil v8 splash later. Lol well that didn't last long. I now have water(consistency) diarrhea. So I took two Imodium.
I'm going to ask a couple questions on a separate post.

This is my first time posting pictures, so I hope I did it right. :-) These are comparisons of preop and 4.5 months out now. I have lost 64 lbs. HW of 282 lbs and CW of 218 lbs. I was wearing a size 24/26(XXXL) and now wearing 16/18(XL). My shape is straight up and down, with very little curve, weight very evenly distributed, so the pictures aren't a drastic change...but I feel drastically changed. :-) My goal is 150 lbs(68 lbs to go), but since I haven't been that small in 15 yrs, at 41 yrs old I might look better closer to 160.
