Hello good people.
I was sleeved May 27th 2013. I am home and all is well with the exception that I have no desire to eat or in this stage drink. I have to force myself into survival mode to get in my required amounts.
Has anyone else gone through this?
Many Thanks
Dan

I had the ds but yes! My thirst never really went, just couldn't fit it in but I have not been hungry at all since before surgery.

Totally normal, at least for me. I didn't think about food for a long time. Believe me, this too shall pass!! Should have seen what I consumed today, lol!
Just keep track of protein and water intake at this stage, especially if you don't desire either.

Force yourself to stay hydrated and like the other poster said, keep track of what you are eating and drinking until this passes. Remember carry water or some liquid with you at all times. I haven't left the house without a drink in years now...grab my purse and my drink, that's how I roll.

I had the DS but with a relatively small sleeve, and yes, I had appetite issues for many months. Even now over 5 years out, I still occasionally have a day with no interest in food or drink.

I am the poster child for what can happen if you allow yourself to cave in to those feelings.
I'll try to give you the abbreviated version.... Wasn't ever hungry, wasn't thirsty, eating and drinking were "not comfortable", EVERYTHING smelled unattractive, so I allowed myself to not eat when I should have, and not drink when I should have. That caused a downward spiral so that, eventually, I wasn't able to keep stuff down when I DID eat or drink. Much of the time, soon after getting some food down, I'd start salivating, and know that I'd better get to a bathroom quick, because it was gonna be coming back up. Not vomiting, exactly, it was more like what birds do when feeding their babies - regurgitating. (pretty picture, ain't it?) I got damn sick, developed edema (sp?) due to protein deficiency, and spent about 6 months of just existing, not really living. Although I was dehydrated, I was carrying around between 40 & 50 pounds of water on the lower half of my body, due to the edema. It took a lot of work to claw myself out of the hole I'd dug, and postponed a lot of the joy that I could have had in my weight-loss experience.
Others have already said it, but I'll repeat it: EAT EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO! DRINK EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO! (Yelled in the kindest manner possible :-) ). Actually, not even yelling at you, I just want to let you know that a little discomfort now is so much better than what can happen to you if you let yourself get malnourished. And, the more you push yourself, the easier it will get, I can testify to that.
I'm glad you posted your concerns. You're not alone, you see.

Totally normal, but you MUST HYDRATE or you'll be like Caprice. Eating doesn't matter yet as it's only been a few days, but HYDRATE. And don't wait until you've gotten in just a few ounces in a couple days to go to the ER. If you cannot get in 64 oz. of fluids (or darned close) for two days in a row, go get a couple bags of IV fluids. You'll feel like a new person.

Ditto to what everyone has said before. I went through a period of time where I just wasn't hungry or thirsty. It is normal. Food held no interest to me. Something I had never experienced before.
NOW if my belly is totally empty, I get horrible cramps and nausea. Which only happens if I am busy and don't take care of my needs. Otherwise I eat and drink all day long. ALL day long and I love it. I always was a grazer.

Post op for the first couple weeks- hydrating was a full time chore.. and eating.. I was happy just with my cottage cheese and protein shakes. I had no real appetite at all. For about 4mo, I really had no physical hunger either.. now I do on occasion. It passes, just keep up on the fluids to the expense of anything else right now.. sipping all day you should easily be able to hit your minimum of 64oz, work up from there.. then worry over the protein/nutrition. Good luck! Oh, and I got my appetite back in a couple months, love food just as much if not more now.. def not an eat to survive type. I frequently eat because I want to, not that I need to.. This can be a good or bad thing, but I keep me in check most days.

I'm not hungry. I have cravings, but not hungry. I eat because I know that I have to get protein in. I drink because I know that I need fluids, not that I'm thirsty.
You are now in a eat to survive mode, not survive to eat any longer. It takes a bit to realize that it doesn't matter if you are hungry, you have to give your body nourishment. It affects nearly ALL bodily functions. If you don't eat, your body does not expend energy, and you don't lose any weight, if you don't drink, your body cannot get rid of waste, process food, heal, or function properly. Water is best, but can be many substances (NOT alcohol) If you go too far into dehydration, better get some gatorade, powerade, pedialyte, something with electorlites. Add salt to foods, and start taking at least a B1 pill, if not a B12 sublingual also, that will help with energy.
Your really early out, and right now fluids are the most important thing you can do.
Food will come, Fluids first.
