My doctor did not list iron as a vitamin to take; however, I do take a prescription pre-natal vitamin. I had a total hysterectomy 2.5 years ago. Should I start taking the Feosol Carbonyl? I am spot on for all other vitamins. I take 3 2000 IU Vit D daily because I deficient prior to surgery anyways. Thanks for the advice! I would still take iron. One tablet for now, and then adjust as you have your labs checked.

What is calcium carbonate? I take Viactiv for calcium...so what is the difference? The carbonate requires an acidic environment for breakdown. With RNY, we no longer have very much stomach acid. Citrate does NOT require the acidic environment, therefore we will absorb more of it.

How early out should or could one start this regimen? I would start right away. You may have to crush pills for the first couple of months, though.

I got sublingual B12 from Sams. Someone was saying theirs taste awful...I love these. They are Members Mark B12, 2500 mg sublingual. Of all the sublinguals I take, they dissolve great and taste great too. The only vite I look forward to...

Great post. Can I ask what is the name brand of your B Complex? I've been taking a chewable, but the taste is starting to drive me bonkers! If you have a Trader Joe's nearby, try their sublingual tabs; these come as either B12 or a B Complex and both are rapid absorbtion. Good luck!

When I had my RNY 10 years ago I was sent home with Fintstones, b12 and Calcium. So much more is known now...I have been on the VitaLady regime for 3 weeks and feel tons better. Blood work soon anxious about the state of my body... Important to start early and commit to a routine. Best Whit It is most excellent that more and more people are getting comprehensive pre-op labs and taking vitamins before surgery. That was not the case in 2007 when I got the DS. Many of us had to fight deficiencies after our three month labs. Even worse, a couple of surgeons did not require labs until 6 months and I saw many of those people struggle with very serious deficiencies. On the other hand, I have never seen people with serious early deficiencies who had adopted Vitalady's plan from the start. I know I promote her vigorously, but I make no money for it . She offers advice and answers questions without trying to sell you anything. And, most importantly, her advice WORKS.
