We have 2: Lubbock Area Ds'ers serves the West Texas area The FB page is LADS Feel free to contact me here if you want to be a part of it. It is only for DS'ers and due to recent issues (long story), we prefer to have new members who already have their surgeon picked and preferably date set. LADS meets 3rd Tuesday of the month, locations vary.
Dallas Fort Worth and pretty much the whole metroplex area, couple of different surgeons represented...And some Stewart patients from NM, LA, OH & TN FB page is DFW DS Feel Free to contact me, though honestly if you post here and mention you are in our area or that you are using Stewart, somebody from the group will likely contact you--they are the paying-it-forwardest group I've ever seen! We are a DS only group as well. DFW DS doesn't have a set schedule because we are a huge group and we kind of move around to accomodate as best we can.
We don't have surgeons or their office staff in our groups as members, just so we can gripe in freedom if necessary. They do have a standing invite to our actual meetings.
The bulk of our support & teaching happen on the FB pages. The meetings (or eating meetings as they are often called) are more to build camaraderie and put faces with names and stories for when issues arise. The DFW group is starting to work towards doing some actual substance beyond food at our meetings.
Give me a holler and if you are in North or West Texas, I will hook you up!

I am making this an announcement since I know Texas isn't the only state with support groups.

Janet, we're meeting at Dr Elariny's office rather that the hospital. Same date and time though. Strong DSr representation and the new NUT is doing well.

Gina, is meeting at Dr. Elariny's office going to be ongoing? If not, does your group have a FB page? Do you have to be a patient of Dr. Elariny's to attend? It is refreshing and hopeful to hear of a NUT that is not too stubborn to learn something new.

Here is the list for Rabkin's groups: www.paclap.com/support/meetings-calendar.cfmThe group in San Jose, which I attend, is a more intimate group than the San Francisco group - usually there are 5-12 people, with several longer-term post-ops who attend regularly. You don't have to be a Rabkin patient to attend, and we have occasional non-DS patients who come as well.

I think meeting at Dr E's office is a permanent change unless we have a huge group as we did when Michelle and Don came to visit last year. We don't have a Facebook page but that is a great idea and I'll suggest it to Cameron. The Yahoo group is a spam magnet but the old timers go there occasionally to catch anything new posted from the office or to catch a newbie having trouble. Cameron is the new dietitian but the last one hired her based on some of our feedback about listening to patients and not blindly buying into the old rules. She still uses Michelle's vitamin list and lab suggestions that the last dietitian modified and used for her DS patients. All WLS patients are welcome regardless of surgeon or surgery type.

Sorry, I don't go to the meetings anymore and didn't realize they were at the office permanently. Unfortunately Dr. E's website is out of date.

I hope you'll be able to join us more often, Janet. Maybe I should offer a 20-something year old to help update his website too.

Our meetings are for all surgeries. The ones I know of aren't for DSers only. Would you be interested in those as well?

What are the names/addresses of those Facebook pages so I can add the groups to the listing? Both groups are set to 'secret' so they are hard to find. We have a good number of folks who are very private about their surgeries and want to be sure what they post won't show up in public. I usually suggest folks find me or another member to be added but here are the URLs: Lubbock Area DS'ers (LADS) www.facebook.com/groups/122600161130520/DFW DS www.facebook.com/groups/244148428972843/

I'm glad this got bumped - exactly what I need. It is actually stickied and an announcement, so it is at the top of every board. You had the power in you all along. You just had to click your heels three times.
