Hi! I'm approaching six months out, and I realize that hair loss is fairly normal. I know there isn't a ton if anything that can be done about it. I'm just curious, when did people see the hair loss slowing down. I didn't notice much hair loss until about 4 months. Then just in the past 2 weeks, its really picked up to where I can just run my fingers through my hair and get a quite a bit of hair. Its kind of scary. Thoughts on when this typically slows down? Part of what helped me was getting a short haircut so it wasn't as obvious, I'm almost 11 months out and it has slowed some but I've always lost lots of hair...even pre-op. Liz

For me, I lost most of my hair from 3-6 months. I have noticed it picking back up again at the 13mo. mark, but that may be just normal shedding and not related to WLS in particular. Like Liz, I have always lost a ton of hair. I will say that no one noticed my hair loss. and it's come back nicely. I have lots of fluffy sprouting and if I don't put some sort of product in there, it's a frizzy mess. -Michelle

Mine lasted from month 4 to about month 7. I never got noticible bald spots but my hair was much thinner and kindof lifeless looking. I am now 13 months out and I think it pretty much looks like it did pre-op but I did get it cut short so maybe I am just used to it now. It was probably the most annoying part of the whole process for me but as they say "this too shall pass." Kelli

I started shedding about 16 weeks out. I'm noticing it's coming back now, and the loss is slowing.. had surgery back in April.

Started shedding big time around 4-5 months. Things are slowing down now at 9 months.

Seven months out, very little hair loss. I am losing some, but it is comparable to after other surgeries I have had.

You guys are scaring me - I had a ton of hair before menopause, I have about half that amount now . . . I'm hoping whatever I lose is temporary . . . sigh.

Last time I lost a ton of weight fast- well over 100lbs, I lost a ton of hair too. It mostly came back.. I only say mostly, as I have female relatives in my family on both sides with extreme hair loss, and unfortunately I seem to have inherited that issue to a degree.. not terrible yet, but.. So, fast weight loss does cause a temporary shut down and shedding of the hair, but it generally returns.

Amy I think my hair loss really started somewhere around 4-5 months and it probably started slowing around 7-8 months out. I have pretty thick hair, so it wasn't ever enough that others noticed, but I sure did. It seems thick as ever now though (13 months out).

I started losing hair around 2.5 months post op. Now, at 6 months post op, it's definitely slowing down, but still losing some. I can see some new growth. No one noticed but me and my hairdresser.

I lost a mine at 4-6 months post-op, but I also was iron deficient. As soon as my iron levels came up, my hair started growing back in.

My hair loss started at 4 months out and now, at 7 months out, the loss is slowing down (still shedding more than normal, but quantity of loss per day is less). I already have a "halo" of peach-fuzz baby hairs sticking up all over my head from new growth, so I think the new hair has been growing in all along, as the old hairs fell out. I too have extremely thick hair to start with. My hairdresser is thrilled that it's now easier for him to blow dry. He said that I have lost about half of my hair, but I still have 3 times more than a "normal person." He normally hates drying my hair, lol.

My hair loss started about 4 months and has stopped now. I had surgery 5/9/11. I can see new growth coming in now. I take a skin and hair biotin complex daily, and I think that helps.
