Today it is ten weeks since surgery. I weigh 260 pounds. That puts my loss since surgery at 42pounds.
I am healthy and full of energy. I am getting in all my vitamins, fluid and protein. I am down to 20g protein from shakes as I get in at least 100g from food. Some of my favourite foods are soft boiled eggs with butter, ENs omlets in a bag, jerky, any cut of beef or lamb, bacon, cold meats, cheese, cream cheese pancakes, almonds, cashews, macedamias and of course butter, cream and cream cheese. I add bits of vegetables like green beans, courgettes, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, spinach. Occasionally I have half a bannana, apple or persimmon. Treats have included baked cheesecake, very dark chocolate, half a slice of wholewheat toast, sweet potatoes and hot chocolate made with lactose free milk and dark chocolate. I have these in very small servings after all my protein. I have two bowel movements in the morning, and perhaps another in the evening if some carb has not agreed too well with me.
Every day has some new wonderful discovery. I can cross my legs, sit indian style, use a regular blood pressure cuff, wear clothes off the regular shelves, go for long walks, climb stairs..... Every time I weighbthe scale creeps down a little further.
On a sadder note, today I noticed that my hair is beginning to fall out. I have always thought a short cut would suit me if it were not for the double chin.
Thank you all for making this board the safe haven and treasure trove it has become.

THREE MONTH SURGI-ANNIVERSARY
Yes, Today it is three months since my surgery. I planned the weighing thing meticulously - after two bowel movements and before any water, butt naked and with all possible fanfare. - I have lost fifty five pounds in three months, and seventy seven pounds since seeing the dietitian for the first time last October.
Three months is a short time in the scheme of things, but these nine months have resulted in the birth of a very different me. Everything is different, better, easier and lighter. I can walk, climb stairs, feel my collar bones, have great sex, fart like a dragon (light a match behind me and you will see flames) and get onto the scale with a happy sense of expectation.
I am a happy girl.

I ordered breakfast at my favourite butcher restaurant. Bacon, eggs, ground beef, baked beans, mushrooms, grilled tomato, toast and fries. They don't serve anything smaller.
Now I really cant eat it. Not even the bacon. I had half the mince and a few fries. It is enough for a whole days eating. To think that I polished off a meal like this just three months ago!

It's already 3 months, can't believe it! I'm so thrilled for you, that your journey has been smooth, you really had to jump some hurdles, travel to get your surgery. Your attitude is tremendous, so proud of you and so glad to know you.

I have diarrhea. It is either a bug or the fatty marrow bones I had. I even soiled the bed in my sleep last night! Fortunately hubby was not in bed yet. So embarrassing.
Today I feel tired and drained. I subsisted on protein shakes, a bit of sweet potato and a whole packet of jerky.
At least the gas is gone! I had the marrow bones because I read that it is good for gut healing and bacterial overgrowth. I think it was simply too fatty. At least I have had the purge one pharmacist suggested.
Could it be caused by the probiotics I started four days ago? I have seen that you must start them gradually. I ignored that advice and have been taking three a day.
Anyway, I think I am on the mend. Now I need to establish what caused the gas: almonds, cashewnuts, half a slice of wholewheat bread, canderell sweetner with aspartame, etc. I will be re-introducing them slowly.
Never a boring day with the DS

Never a boring day with the DS Nope! I understand this very well, I'm sure many here do. I've had a couple of 'accidents' too, including when I was in Palm Springs last weekend, fortunately in the privacy of my guest bedroom/bathroom. I seem to be going through a phase where any type of carb is, literally, killing me. I haven't had normal movements in a couple of months and it's escalating. So I'm going back to basics, and re-adding slowly to see what it is - spinach? brocooli slaw? corn? berries? *sighs* Just spent 20 mins in the bathroom at work, thankfully, boss is at a 4 hour budget meeting. Glad otherwise you're doing well dear friend.

I hope today is a better day for you Leonie! I've never been able to take probiotics, maybe because I rushed into them like you did... who knows. Thank you for keeping a journal here. It's so encouraging to hear how you're progressing.

I ended up at ER last night. Dizziness, dryness and headache sounded to me like dehydration.
They did give me fluids after struggling to get a vein, but my electrolytes were ok. The culprit was bladder infection. Getting the fever down helped enormously.
Sharyl, I am relieved to hear that the increased sevsitivity is not just me.
Biltong is my current miracle food. That is our unique version of jerky. Imagine 10 cm wide strips of beef or venison, salted and spiced and hung to dry in the winter months or at the butcher. There should be a strip of yellow fat along the edge and still slightly pink inside. Vevison should be bone dry. 25g packs 11g of protein and I can comfortably eat 150g. A 150g piece costs as much as a single protein shake.

This has been one mother of a bladder infection! I went back to the doctor today and got a second antibiotic as I wasn't responding to the first. On the plus side, today has been the first time since surgery that I have not passed gas, not once. It actually feels a little strange. The combination of a purge, antibiotics, nsaids, probiotics, chia seeds, and a simplified diet seems to have worked.

Tomorrow it is four months since surgery. I am so thankful for the love and support of my husband, family, friends and YOU From a highest weight of 147kg, I now weigh 109kg. Since October I have lost 35kg, and since surgery I am 28kg lighter. I am more than halfway to my goal weight. I can climb stairs, play with my grandchild on my lap and even run. My knees and hips no longer hurt. Type 2 diabetes is gone. The metabolic disorder is cured. I was always hungry, tired and gaining. Now I eat for energy, am never hungry, have lots of energy and lose weight. I love my DS
