So, I'm going along trying to be a rock star getting in all my vits, fluid and protein which is 60-80g a day.
But I keep having episodes of what seems like acid reflux and nothing helps except time. It lasts about an hour. I am thinking it is vitamins since I am horking back so many. Anyone experience this?...Maybe I just need to slow down... I dont think it is food or fluid because it isnt consistant with any particular food or fluid.
I take prilosec 20 mg twice a day and have for years. Surgeon fixed my hiatal hernia while digging around in my gut. I see my PCP friday. I will email surgeon to see what he says too but I figured y'all might have some insight.

You might need to change PPI's. Nexium has worked well for me.

I am on 40 mg Prilosec twice a day and that did the trick; I still have a sliding hiatal hernia that wasn't not repaired due to my obesity. My insurance pays for the Prilosec since it's a large dose. You may need to up the dosage or switch to another med. So, I'm going along trying to be a rock star getting in all my vits, fluid and protein which is 60-80g a day. I am madly in love with a newer medication called Dexilant. Prilosec worked well for me early postop, but nowadays I need something different, and this stuff is fantastic.

Protonix has done WONDERS for me. I've tried Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid, etc. Protonix was like magic. I STILL had some acid reflux issues after surgery that got better within a month or two, but Protonix made it bearable. I was already taking it, and my PCP doubled my dose for the first 2-3 months after surgery. Big difference.

Heartburn, acid is very normal after surgery, blech. I was on Nexium for a month, and the problem stopped after that, haven't had to take anything since.

I just called my ins co and they said that Dexiant is as tier III which means its a 50%! copay. Also it is a form of prevacid and prevacid gives me diarrhea...booo...

Maybe increase the prilosec to 40 mg twice a day and see what happens. You can get it OTC.

I never really suffered from acid until about 4 months post op. I emailed Dr. K about my symptoms and he immediately put me on Protonix. OMG, what a difference. It relieved symptoms I never associated with acid. I am hoping I won't need to stay on it for long but you might want to consider it. It took just 2 days for me to be symptom free. I tried one of the other brands first (I can't remember which one right now because of this damned headache) and it did nothing. You need something that works for this kind of surgery. Not all of them are effective post op. Not sure why but that has been the trend on the boards.

It seems everyone is different for what works for them. Today was a good day so far. I ate less...maybe that has something to do with it. I dont know when I am full or when my stomach is empty.

It is frustrating to know when i am full too i guess we learn that as we go , i have found that if my stomach is empty the tummy is very uncomfortable like yesterday, today i just set my limits and stopped and tried eating a little every few hours..
