The Bari surgeon (here in the states) today gave me an informative book on VSG contains info on pre op, peri op, post op
1 of things I noticed is he wants a bowel prep and oral antibiotics to cleanse my bowels in preparation for surgery.
I have Mexico Bari surgery as my back up plan if I can't get approved. No where have I heard or seen where Mexico Bari surgeons have their patients do this the day before WLS. And I missing this?
Have any memebers of mexican WLS included a bowel prep? My DR says its very important and surgery will be canceled if not compliant.

Aceves didn't. Instructions were nothing by mouth after midnite (or was it 10 pm? Can't remember.) So that's what I did. Even went out to a wonderful local restaurant for dinner the nite before surgery. No antibiotics pre-op either.

I had Aceves in Mexico too. I had to do a 5 day pre-op liquid diet, but otherwise it was pretty much the same deal. No food after 10pm on the night before surgery. However, I WAS allowed to have something for dinner at the restaurant at the Crown Plaza about 8pm the night before. I was sort of surprised about that and asked several times to both the nurses and one of the Doctors if they were absolutely SURE it was okay. They said "Yes", just don't overdo it. So... after 5 days of nothing but liquid anyway my appetite had sort of waned. I didn't feel like I needed a lot to eat. I ordered the most heavenly salad with a thinly butterflied grilled chicken breast and a whole avocado sliced on top. I ate less than half of it and felt stuffed and a little guilty and gluttonous. My guilt quickly dissipated when I looked over at the next table and saw one of Dr. Aceves other patients eating her "last meal". She was also having surgery the next morning. Her meal was a HUGE T-bone steak, the most enormous loaded baked potato I've ever seen and probably half a loaf of bread in the bread basket on the table! She ate it all!!! I still think about her and wonder how she's doing now...

I am embarassed to say that could have been me. the night before surgery my whole group (everyone having surgery then next day and their guests) had a HUGE meal at the restaurant in the hotel. we heard that not too long afterwards he started changing the "eat anything you want" the night before rule. we joked about it but we did it. I asked one of the waiters - do you guys thing it's weird that north americans come her and eat a huge meal & then have our stomachs taken out so we can't eat a huge meal and he smiled and said yes but it happens all the time.

Did members who had VSGs stateside have to do the bowel prep with magnesium citrate and oral antibiotics? Just curious. Apparently you can buy magnesium citrate OTC

No bowel prep for me. just liquids the day before and NPO after midnight.
The magnesium citrate is OTC, try the cherry flavor if you are not doing it for a colonoscopy.
Please forgive me for saying this, it elicits negative comments from many, I actually like the taste of the cherry magnesium citrate. The lemon is okay but the cherry is better.

I didn't consider it a proper bowl prep but they had me take 2 oz of Milk of Magnesia (sp?) at 4 pm the day before surgery. It definitely cleaned me out pretty well, nothing terrible but I figured it was for my benefit after surgery - not having to deal with pushing et al.
I'm surprised that there are DSers who had no bowl prep . . . interesting how docs are all different in what they want!!
No antibiotics and a light meal for dinner, no lettuce he said. I guess it lingers in the stomach!!
