I'm just over a month out and I've been getting in my water daily without any issues. Except, it seems to make me hungry. This isn't new to the surgery, but I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue. I used to be a diet coke fiend pre op, now that is obviously out. I know most people are filled up by water, being the opposite is frustrating. Does anyone else have this issue? Any ideas for how to make it stop? I'm not a big fan of crystal lite and the other sweet things.

I think that's acid reflux. Water gives it to me as well but I feel "discomfort" when I drink it. Others have said something about hunger feelings are sometimes acid reflux or some sort of reflux issue.
I can't drink water and I don't tolerate cold drinks. I have to drink room temperature, tea or flavored waters, or hot drinks. At 7 months out I can drink water and deal with the discomfort but I prefer not to. We have a new favorite in my house, MIO. Love them.
Any of the calorie free water flavorings usually help that feeling. Good luck!

I thought you were going to complain that plain water doesn't taste right anymore which I have heard frequently.
so this puzzles me.
are you on a PPI?

I'm on a PPI and don't think that it is real hunger, or acid reflux. I've googled this and it I'm certainly not the only one, but I also can't find an answer to what it is and how to deal with it. Whether the water is cold, warm or room temp, doesn't seem to make any difference. I may try some decaf tea tomorrow and see if that is any help. It's not really the end of the world, but I dont' want to end up overeating as I get further out. Not that I have any real space in my tiny tummy right now.
As to the water not tasting right, I know that is due to the ketosis.

Water actually made me nauseous when I was early out, so I didn't drink plain water AT ALL. Crystal Light types of mixes were too sweet if I made them according to the directions, but they were okay if I used more water than required - made them less sweet.
I know when I drink on an empty stomach, I can feel the liquid go down and hit my stomach - I wonder if this is just sort of making you aware that your stomach is empty?

Preop diet code fiend here too....drinking water makes me bloated and yet mimics really empty stomach hunger feeling (which is odd when youre bloated at the same time)....people say the bloating goes away as your body gets used to it but to avoid the plain water taste/feeling Ive used the crystal light tea mix and just tea in general which works better if you can handle the tannins

I don't think I was ever in ketosis (always ate carbs even when I was very low calories the first few months) and I'm certainly not now. but water still doesn't taste like it did.
remember reading someone talking about the ph and our new stomachs and not sure that's what it is either but SOMETHING is different.
so maybe you are in ketosis and that is one reason but it's not the only one is what I'm saying.
but I don't have an answer. I always felt hunger from one week out but then I felt being FULL with tiny amounts. like it should be!
it is hard to find non-sweet things to drink but there are broths in protein drinks.
BTW, I know you said you don't like artificial sweeteners - have you looked at Syntrax Nectar Naturals? expensive but I really like the peach and the orange - in fact I still drink them as they are the perfect breakfast for me.

The ketosis is something that may be affecting this. My carbs have been very low since surgery. The water has a somewhat saccharine taste to it at times.
I'm wondering if I need to acidify the water a bit. It seems that acidic things actually tend to relieve heartburn, so I may try putting some lemon in the water, or even a very tiny amount of apple cider vinegar.
My hunger is very easily taken care of, it just seems like it comes back relatively soon. I would love to be sated for at least an hour or so. Since I'm still on soft meats, it will be interesting what will happen when I start adding in veggies and everything else next week.
Thanks for the tip on the naturals. I'll have to check them out. I have some of the regular nectars and like them a lot.

Post op, I can really only handle smartwater. For whatever reason, plain water makes my stomach clench up. Every once and a while, I can do it, but no way whatsoever early postop. Sweeteners didn't help either.

Sweeteners didn't help either. I was exactly the same early post op. I had to add lemon or something else to it to get it down. Even now I'm still limited with how much ice water I can drink at a time. I can drink it warm without any problem at all.

I've tried adding some lemon juice to the water and that does seem to help somewhat. It also seems like the further out that I get, the less hungry I get. Seems odd, but I'll take it.
