By that time I was perfectly fine.. heck, I went camping 6 weeks after my surgery- no problem! By 3 months you should be fairly comfortable with your new eating style and tolerances/preferences.. and you should be ok energy wise as well.

I went on vacation about 3 months after surgery. I used to bring all of my food with me wherever I went in and insulated bag with an ice pack to be certain I would have the correct foods at meal time.
Never had a problem taking in food anywhere like amusement parks etc..., if they asked I explained I had surgery and needed specific foods not available in their parks. Remember to take you meds too.
I would take chicken breast, yogurt, tuna, and protein drinks, mostly leftovers from the previous nights dinner. It helped to avoid those carbs laying in wait everywhere you go.

I went to a major scientific conference 1 month postop and I was fine. I was a little more tired than usual (this conference kicks a normal person's butt...) but I made it.
I brought protein powder and purchased milk to make shakes. and finding yogurt and other soft proteins was not a problem at all.

By that time you should be able to do anything that you did before surgery and probably more. The only thing stopping you would be if you were in the less than 1% group who is having lingering complications and you can't plan your life around that. So, unless you are planning on doing major mountain climbing. marathons or other physical challenges that you've never done before, you should be fine, and if you're talking about typical touristy things, you will probably find that your endurance is better than it has been in a long time.

By then hopefully you will be eating a normal VSG diet. I was at the beach and walking the boardwalk one week after surgery. I felt great!!

Heck, my whole WLS was a huge vacation (before AND after). I took 3 weeks off and drove down to Mexico (sightseeing the whole way), had my surgery in Mexicali and drove back home while stopping and shopping/visiting every place I missed on the way down there. I even did some hiking on the Algodones Sand Dunes the day I got out of the hospital. But that's just me. The exercise was good and my surgery was lap (which helped).
The biggest challenge was finding places that served broth-based soup while traveling. It was pretty much the only thing my stomach could tolerate the first few weeks.
Right now I am 4 months out and I would KILL for a vacation. Take me with? LOL!

Wow. I'm so impressed with how active you were post op.I'm such a baby when it comes to pain but I've read how a lot of members said they felt little to no pain but I do have a low tolerance for pain. We shall see. Your post is encouraging to me. thank you!

almost certainly, like everyone else said. I wasn't able to get in anything like enough protein with real food so was still living on syntrax nectars. also was a still freaked out about eating in public restaurants. but I felt great!

Now, I'm the opposite of Jackie. I've had no issues getting in all my protein. If I want to get my protein levels over 90, I may have a protein shake at bedtime. Restaurants haven't been a problem. I tend to split something with hubby. The other day I had scallops with a tiny amount of steak and a tiny amount of beans. It was awesome!
You'll know yourself well before your trip and will be able to plan accordingly. We all have different reactions to the surgery, but they're easy to work around for the most part.

I THOUGHT VISITING OMAHA IN THE FALL AND HAVING A DS WAS A VACATION, LOTS OF REST,, WALKING AROUND THE OLD MARKET SQUARE AND THE OMAHA ZOO IS GREAT. GOOD RESTAURANTS. NICE CITY TO VISIT. ONLY MISSED TWO DAYS OF SITE SEEING THAT I STAYED IN THE HOSPITAL FULL TIME.
