Hi all, have you had a crazy craving after DS? If you did what was it for and how long did it last? For the last couple weeks I have been craving raw onions... I been adding them to almost all my proteins, it is driving me nuts!

As long as you are not using up your valuable stomach real estate on onions rather than protein, I see no problem. Make sure you are taking your Omeprazole/Prilosec every day!

Mezzetta's garlic stuffed olives. I don't allow myself more than two per day, but, dang, they call out to me. It was crisp dill pickles some time before that. So, I guess pickled stuff.....

Linguine with white clam sauce.
After much experimentation and pain, I discovered that I can eat about one cup of gluten free pasta without agony. The white clam sauce is swimming in oil and that helps. This is a rare treat and a normal restaurant sized portion will last me about six meals.
Before I had my DS, I read a lot of people having "last meal" smorgasbords. They were told that nothing is forbidden forever. I decided to embrace that idea and not go on a feeding frenzy. Of course, almost from the very moment that my post-op nausea had left, I was craving linguine with white clam sauce. Took me about a year before I would attempt it. Dreamfields hurt from the first forkful. I didn't try gluten free until about a year ago.

What is the brand name of the gluten free linguini? Is it made with rice flour or another substance?
I've really been missing pasta and would love to try something...I've done Dreamfields, and another brand but they are all very high in carbs. How many carbs does the one you eat have?

Just remember that gluten free is not carb free. Gluten free pasta has just as many carbohydrates as "regular" pasta. You would eat gluten free if you have problems with gluten, not carbs. I love pasta and eat it maybe once a week. However, I always weigh and measure it when cooking at home. It's really the only food I still weigh because even after 12 years I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around the amount of one serving of pasta. At home I will eat approximately 1 serving (56 grams), sometimes a little more. The repercussions are the usual gas and bloating, but I'm ok with that because I'm home and still maintain a happy weight. I love ravioli because it has protein!

I know that about the carbs and pasta...I thought maybe she had found a brand made with almonds, coconut or other non high carb flour.

It was Heartland. $1.98 at Walmart. Has a whopping 45 grams of carbs per serving. That's why it is only a rare treat for me. www.walmart.com/ip/Heartland-Gluten-Free-Spaghetti-12-oz/20746416

Thanks Kelly. I guess I'll just have my pasta with the lousy low carb stuff I already have. Blah! I may look for some whole wheat pasta - then maybe I won't be like a floating ballon.
Smash up those hot dogs - put some cheese on top and microwave. That ought to quell the desire for them for a while. Just don't eat too many...remember your tiny tummy.

Welcome, Mindy! Go ahead and have some bits of hot dog. Small bites, chew well, put the fork down in between bites and when you are no longer hungry. I'd recommend all beef or kosher hot dogs. Nothing wrong about eating hot dogs.

For me, pasta is merely the vehicle for white clam sauce, alfredo sauce, home made marinara. What low carb pasta are you using?

Carba Noodles by Al Dente...of else that's just the name of the noodles. I know Al Dente is a way to cook them, but that's what the bag says. I got it on Netrition or Amazon. I can't remember. It has 24 carbs for a 1 1/2 cup serving...which is pretty large amount of pasta. It says they are egg noodles...meaning (I think) they are made with a lot of eggs..besides the normal amount used in pasta.
They are ok, pretty bland but I'm not sure I would by them again.

Thanks. I don't eat it often enough to worry so much about the carb count. Certainly not enough to risk the horrible pain I have had with other pastas. I'll stick with my gluten free.

I went through the crisp dill pickle thing too. It was so weird. I couldn't get enough of them for at least a month and then it vanished. Sent from my Z970 using proboards

I went through lots of weird cravings...then there was (and still happens) the time when I was hungry, but I didn't know what I wanted. I think some cravings are based on real physical needs, and some are mental. A lot of the time it turns out I'm just thirsty. I drink cold water...no ice. PERFECT!

By now all my cravings are gone. Now I have hard time finding what I want to eat lol. I did find Quest Protein Chips. They have 21g of protein per 32g of chips and only 5g of carbs, none of the carbs from sugar. They do not taste best on their own, tolarble with nice full fat dip.
