Has anyone else had this issue is it DS related? I started 3 days of anti biotics on 3/27. 10 days on 4/11. I finished up all meds but yesterday symtoms returned. My dr said my first culture was sensitive to cipro and perhaps 3 days was not long enough. The 10 day drug was macrobid. I'm now back to a higher dose of cipro for 10 days.

I take cipro with no problem, and it is effective.
Macrobid may be fat soluble, in which case you may have not absorbed it well.
Does your doctor understand that you do not absorb fat? Did he investigate whether or not Macrobid is fat soluble?

I'm talked to them about the fat absorption but I didn't think to bring it up. I took cipro 250g twice a day for 3 days. Then 10 days later the uti was back and I did 10 days of macrobid. I took last one Monday and yesterday I noticed the uti was back. Now we are trying 500g of cipro for 10 days. If this doesn't work I think I'll seek a neurologist.

No, it is not DS related, but your DS can affect how different medications may work for you.
I have nothing but second hand knowledge of UTIs. My mother had several when she was in my care. I know that they can be a real bear to kill.
You are in good hands with NYB. Listen to her.
Best of luck to you!

Sorry you are going through this. Please let us know what your doctor says about the macrobid and let us know how you are doing!

Also make sure they aren't giving you extended release type pills. They wont work as well on us.

You know, I see people say that from time to time, and I understand why it might be a problem, but I have never had an issue with extended release medication. Has anyone here had a problem with extended release medication?

I've never taken any, but my surgeon told me they could present an issue. We had to have a discussion about it, pre-DS, because of some medications I used to take. He was concerned I'd have a hard time managing my levels with the XR versions.

No. I take extended release medication just fine. (Alleve, my Wellbutrin XR, etc.) All works the same as it did pre-op.

Has anyone here had a problem with extended release medication? . Yes, I cant benefit much at all from extended release meds. I have tried pain meds, it did not work and couple other ones as well. When they switched to something I can take more often, worked like a charm.

I wouldn't know. Since I was first told that we may have problems with extended released meds, I have not taken any.

I have had the same UTI issue since my surgery in October and am curious what medicine you find that works for you.
I have had continual/chronic UTIs since surgery (or just one really stubborn one that has never gone away apparently).
I need to find a medicine and correct duration of time on that medicine that will kick this UTI in the hoohah...
When you find out, please let me know. Likewise, I will do the same, as I have another appointment with my dr coming up on June 3rd.

The 3rd round of cipro worked. I ended up taking 500 mg twice a day for 10 days. It's been about 2 weeks and it has not returned. I know they did confirm that the bacteria was ecoli (90% of uti's are caused from this) and that it was sensitive to cipro.
