Time for a New York DS Dinner! Date: Tuesday, April 28th, 2015 Place: Artie's Delicatessen 2290 Broadway (Broadway and 83rd Street) Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (Closest subway stop: 1 train at 79th Street)
This is a DS friendly eatery, corned beef, pastrami, hot dogs, chicken, etc. at affordable prices. We had a social here last year, and found this a place where we could all have a good conversation over lots of protein! Artie's is not particularly crowded on weeknights, so we won't have a problem staying as long as we would like.
Any DSers are welcome to bring friends and family. Also, those who are already on the path to getting the DS are also welcome!
We did two of these last year, and they were great resources to talk about the TMI things we cannot discuss anywhere else, food and vitamin tips, swap recipes, and to get support from those who have been down this road. I am cross-posting this to a few DS groups! Hope to see some fellow New Yorkers for a good nosh!

My son and I are still in NYC recovering from his bone marrow transplant. I definitely want to go, but always risk being a last minute cancel-ee if he's not doing well that day. But let's be optimistic and count on it! And Mr CY - I've become quite the NY'er in training, I take the #1 to the UWS and walk by Artie's at least a few times a week. When my son is in the hospital (Columbia Pres), I have been known to take the #1 down to that area....Zabar's, Levain, Citarella, Mille Feuille....unfortunately I have found all the places to eat there . Some Saturday's I'll pick a neighborhood and go exploring. If you like pickles, I found the best place on the LES last week. Pickles of any kind, including picked mango and pineapple, which is way more tasty than you might think. Can't wait to see everyone.

J, have you discovered Maison Kayser yet? Go. There's one on Broadway near 76th.

J, have you discovered Maison Kayser yet? Go. There's one on Broadway near 76th. Yes I had a really good asparagus egg thingy there. I have a very good friend who lives on West End in that area, and she took me there for brunch a few weeks ago. When my son is hospitalized we lose our apartment temporarily at the American Cancer Society. While we go back on the wait list, we usually stay at that NYLO hotel on Broadway / W77th, which is right across the street. I really like that neighborhood. I've wanted to go back to that little place where we went for a drink with jpcello, too.

NYB, after your post to Joanne, I found myself on the West Side today, and went to Maison Kayser for lunch! So good - great suggestion!

And next time you're there, go a few stores to the right to a little bakery called Mille Feuille, and take home some caramel walnut bread. Or a raisin bun. Or both

Please, please, please send me some NYC pastrami. Lucky b*tches.
We have NJ transplants who opened a deli/grill with mile high sandwiches, but their pastrami is not quite the same.
I miss real bakery black and white cookies and cinnamon babka, too. I ordered some cinnamon babka from Zabar's and made French toast with it during the holidays. Delish.
I'm happy to be back home, but sometimes I really miss NYC.
Have a great time!

I've got a trip planned for the weekend of June 19th. I will definitely make sure Artie's is on our food list that weekend, unless I can talk my sister into a trip to Katz's. That's usually not too hard a sell. The best pastrami on the planet.

I'd rather go with Katz's - Artie's is not quite as good. And you'll have to pass on Carnegie Deli - they've been shut down.

Thank you for looking in to it! Hopefully as our community grow on this board we will be able to start something similar to the social you guys having. I do know only one person so far locally with DS, I am sure we will see more people here from Il with an interest.
