If I have the revision to DS, my surgeon told me I will have a feeding tube about 4 weeks post op as a precaution. I welcome it really as I can throw a couple ozs of fluid down every 15 minutes or so to stay hydrated, along with my oral intake of course. I am very comfortable with care of the tube; however, will be a learning curve to take care of one on myself. Anyone else have a feeding tube post op that can share their experience? Any other thoughts on this?

Dr. Greenbaum was my surgeon and I had the feeding tube and drain. This is a regular routine for RNY to DS patients. He does it as a precaution in case there are leaks which can occur in some patients. It never happens at the hospital, but sometimes at home. I remember him saying with 2% of the patients. I had mine for 18 days then he took everything out. I had nothing to do with feeding tube, but cared for the drain by milking the lines and emptying the drain and noting color and smell. I am sure they will show you how to do this and explain what aftercare. Just make sure you have a thin belt that fits around your waist. I was able to loop the drain through the belt and then I could shower.
It is no big deal although it will probably drive you crazy. The results that you get from the DS surgery are well worth it and I would go through this whole thing again.

I too revised from RNY to DS. I was NPO (no food by mouth) for 8 weeks and relied on the Tube for all nourishment and hydration. It was not removed until 4 months post-op. It was not painful and much needed. I placed gauze under it and taped it down to my belly (under my binder) to keep it from bouncing around.
If you do not have a belt you can take a long (really long) piece of paper tape double it over (so its not sticky) then make a loop and put it around your neck to pin your tubes and drains to while showering.
Cindy is right it may drive you nuts but you will be glad you have it. You can use it to get extra fluids in.
Good luck.
