as fast the second time around? I have read many comments that revisions lose slower, and not as much. I'm very interested in anyone's input. I just feel in my situation (RNY TO DS, RNY 14 years ago) that I should be successful in weight loss since it's been so long since my first surgery, and since with this procedure I'm getting a totally new stomach/bypass. Anyone with experience that could enlighten me on your journey, I would greatly appreciate it!

I'm a revision and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would lose as fast as I did. I think my friend, Cindy, who is also on this site feels the same way. Mine was lapband to DS, though, and Cindy's was RNY to DS, so she will probably give you better advice than me! The surgery is more complex because it's a revision and they have to work around scar tissue and different variations of the anatomy that had previously been changed by the prior surgery. That being said, who are thinking of having do your surgery? Cindy and my doctor was Dr. Greenbaum and I thought he was fantastic.

I have not found this to be the case for me either. I revised from RNY to DS in 12/12 I lost all excess weight by month 9 and kept going. I am now 119 and a size 2. I have been maintaing for the past year. I will probably have a bounce back which will be fine with me. It has not been easy but I am happy and finally healthy.

I think there are so many complicated reasons why people are overweight (physical, emotional, genetic), etc that it's difficult to categorize any group and make conclusions. What works for someone might not work for someone else. I do think many people assume revisions lose more slowly. I dont know that it's ever been proven. I suspect if it's true that it would be tied to either slower metabolism from the first surgery, or even the reason why their first surgery failed (ie maybe their obesity, whatever the cause, is just more challenging). But it's not a race, most every DS revision I know of is successful, even if it takes longer. I know only one person who does everything right and is not satisfied with her results, but there are exceptions to every rule

Nothing wrong with slow.
Slow and steady wins the race.
I was a slow loser. It took me exactly 24 months to reach a normal BMI. But, I have maintained that for 5.5 years now.

Hi:
I had RNY back in 2001 and DS in 2014. My only regret was that I didn't do this surgery sooner. Thirteen years of still being obese. I went from 380 to 220 with the RNY and with my father, my brother passing away and losing a job all within 18 months - came 60 pounds and back up to 280 I was. I was disgusted and very unhappy with myself. This surgery has been the BEST EXPERIENCE. I love the sleeve and the freedom of the foods that I can eat - ALL THAT CHEESE!
I am almost at goal and my surgery date was June 30, 2014. Look at the veterans and how they have been able to keep off the weight. That is the best data from the surgery is that people can lose more and keep off the weight long term. It doesn't matter how fast I lose - I do not care as long as I see something during the month. This surgery has not disappointed me. I feel great and I have a body that I never could have imagined. My husband has never seen me this thin. I feel great and have energy.
I wish you much success in whatever you choose for revisional surgery. I looked at everything before this - including Rose, Stomaphyx and gastric plication. This was my best alternative.

Have any of the people here considered addiction therapy or OA? For what? Most of us have all been very successful with our weight loss. If you're talking about prior to surgery, I think every one of us tried everything out there prior to making this choice. What a silly question, I don't think people would even consider surgery if they hadn't exhausted their non-surgical resources. How about you? What are your goals on this site as a new member, you're asking about us, how about you share you history and we'll kindly give you our advice?

If you are, in actual fact, a real person who had a real gastric bypass, you had the size of your stomach reduced. Nothing was re-routed, no section of your intestine was taken out of the mix. MOST of your alimentary tract is completely unchanged. I am impressed that you are resurrecting a thread that's newer than 2 years old this time. That's a refreshing change, anyway. If you're selling something, you need to work on your method, because I haven't been able to figure it out after 6 necroposts.
