Darn, darn, darn, I thought I had my iron under control. I take 5 per day every morning and I just got my latest iron result back (my thyroid doctor does this as a favor for me as he only has to check the thyroid) and my level is 39. The normal is 40-190. When I went to the hematologist, he told me to just take the iron orally because at that point everything was in range. (He had actually told me to cut back to taking 3 of the iron pills but I didn't because I didn't want to risk it.) Now the Iron, Total, is 39 and should be at least 40. The other irons are:
Iron binding capacity 279 (normal is 250-450) % Saturation 14 (normal is 11-50)
Should I head to the hematologist again or wait until I get my full labs done in May? The opinions of the experts on here would be most appreciated!
Thanks, Kelly

Your hematologist does not understand your malabsorption but I bet he will now. Go back now and insist on infusions. Do not wait.

NYB, I'm waiting on my ferritin level, it always takes a few days longer than the other tests for some reason.
Thanks, Joanne, I appreciate it!

Have you been taking vitamin c with your iron?
What type of iron are you taking?

Yes, I take my vitamin C with my iron every morning. I take the Vitalady 60 mg Elemental Carbonyl Iron (tender iron.) I take five of these a day. Each pill also has 400 mg of vitamin c in it, I just noticed while looking at the bottle.
Just received my Ferritin level and it is high at 267. The normal is 10-232. Does it make sense that one of my iron numbers (iron, total) is a point low and the others are in range or high? I guess I have to research this a little...
Thanks for all your feedback, Kelly

Ferritin is what I struggle with. My other values are always fine.
Before my infusion I was on the same dosage of Tender Iron as you are combined with one Polysaccharide.
Maybe you just need to add another type of iron to the mix?
