I took it for several months before and kept vomiting. Delayed release anything never works for me. I was taking it twice a day. That's why the pantoprazole worked but I can't afford the price of that one. I honestly haven't noticed much difference since stopping . I mean I still felt sick while on it

Hi all. So I mentioned before about being underweight but lately it's starting to really hit me: being underweight is NOT a good thing and can actually be worse than MO. And it's not like I haven't TRIED to gain weight. I mean I was eating things we shouldn't - pie, cake, cookies, crackers , and other gas producing foods (along with my protein of course) and still no gain . My dr wanted me to get back to 145 and I've been staring at 131 for months. Trying a new strength training program and still not gaining but I know that takes time. I started researching what else I could do but it's not greatly talked about. I know creon is an option and will probably try that next but I heard that it doesn't work for some people and only works temporary. Can anyone point me in the right direction? At 5'3" 131 pounds is a BMI of 23.2. You are NOT underweight. In fact you are just into the normal weight zone. This is the BMI scale from the NIH: Underweight = <18.5 Normal weight = 18.5–24.9 Overweight = 25–29.9 Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater You just passed out of your weight loss window. Your body may appear gaunt for awhile while your skin and fat resettle. You have not had any bounce back weight, yet, either. Give your body time to adjust. You do not need to gain any weight just yet. This is a normal part of the transition from the rapid weight loss stage to maintenance. The time to do something about it is when your BMI is under 18.5 and you can't stop losing. Until then, don't worry about it. Stop with the carbs. They will bite you in the arse and make you regain more weight than you will like.

Well I was 141 then was hospitalized for 3 weeks and lost 30lbs mostly muscle. I feel fine except the muscle. Labs are perfect - high end of normal but doc said he wanted me to gain. I was thinking about plastics with all this skin being that labs and weight are good ( except muscle ) but didn't want to do it if I still need to gain since my body will use my muscle afterwards for energy and I'll loose it again. Plus I don't like feeling weak going up stairs so started strength training 6 days a week Ignore that doctor. You are perfectly healthy now. Why would you want to be overweight again? If you want to build muscle, you will need to increase your protein. You use up protein while you are working your muscles and afterwards when they are healing.

Yeah I used to take a PPI but insurance stopped paying and pcp refused a prior authorization . Now I have new insurance (waiting on the cards) so I can try again. I'm trying to figure this stuff out. Your old insurance stopped paying for the drug you were taking that worked (pantoprazole) and your doctor didnt want to do a prior authorization. So you tried all the OTC stuff and nothing worked. You now have new insurance. Will it cover the pantoprazole? If it does, why are you waiting to get it. You should be able to your insurance's website and print a temporary card. If you're still having problems with your PCP helping you get the drugs you need, then you need to find a new PCP. That's BS. On the other topic of underweight, I say forget about that. You're healthy (except for the GERD). That should be your first priority - getting the GERD under control.

Are you at least taking ranitidine (zantac) twice a day ?
It's also OTC.

Another OTC one you can try and the generic is super cheap is Pepcid AC (famatodine is the generic). Zantac is also good. Deal with these other issues that are way more important. The last thing you want to do right now is gain weight. Trust me. Go back and read what I wrote. I was technically on the LOW end of normal when I hit about 125. I looked thin at 135. I tried to regain. Fast forward like my post said and I gained back 60 lbs. I guarantee you will be submitting a post here in about 3-4 years asking HOW to lose the bounce back weight gain. I've lost 35 but it took me 10 months to do it. So to try to gain weight now is just plain silly and the last thing you should want to do. Kelly is right, you just barely got into "normal" range. You can tone and work on muscle and building strength regardless of the numbers on the scale!
