Haven't been on here for awhile for a lot of reasons but I've had some pretty intense GERD despite the daily 40 mg of omeprazole and had an esophogram and a CT scan…I have a hiatal hernia which I already knew, but the surgeon who looked at the results suggested a sleeve revision/restoration. I'm a little confused, is it the same thing? The surgeon, a thoracic surgeon also refused to fix the hernia so I have to get in with the bariatric surgeon who is book waaaaayyyy out.
Correction…80 mg of omeprazole a day

It is not the same thing. I am sure that the hernia is causing a significant amount of your GERD. That's not to say that your GERD will completely go away once it has been fixed. "The hernia bulges through the diaphragm at a place called the hiatus. This is the opening in the diaphragm that the esophagus passes through. The esophagus is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach." It is because of this that it often requires repair/adjustment to your sleeve. Here is more info on them: www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/tc/hiatal-hernia-topic-overviewWhat is a hiatal hernia?
A hiatal hernia (say "hi-AY-tul HER-nee-uh") happens when part of your stomach bulges up through the diaphragm and into your chest. The diaphragm is a sheet of muscle that separates your belly (abdomen) from your chest. The hernia bulges through the diaphragm at a place called the hiatus. This is the opening in the diaphragm that the esophagus passes through. The esophagus is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach. There are three main types of hiatal hernia: sliding, paraesophageal, and mixed. Most people who have a hiatal hernia have a What causes a hiatal hernia? A hiatal hernia often is caused by weak muscles and tissue within and around the hiatus. In a sliding hiatal hernia, a small part of the stomach pushes through the diaphragm and into the chest. A valve between the esophagus and the stomach also moves up and away from the diaphragm. What are the symptoms? Most people who have a hiatal hernia have no symptoms. One symptom you may have is heartburn, which is an uncomfortable feeling of burning, warmth, or pain behind the breastbone. It is common to have heartburn at night when you are trying to sleep. If you often have symptoms or they are severe, you may have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). A hiatal hernia can lead to GERD, and people often have both conditions at the same time.

Having the hernia fixed will help for a while, but I have one had it fixed and I believe it is back. Just know that going in. Maybe the surgeon can fix it if her revises your tummy.
I had a resleeve and they fixed my hernia, but back it came. Just saying.

You have received some great information thus far. I had anterior and posteria hiatal hernia, causaed by that torture device, lap band, that was surgically repaired. you will feel much better after it is repaired, I did. You do need to have that surgically fixed, there are youtube videos out there that you can search and get a visual of what that looks like. After your hernia is fixed the dr can look at your VSG and adjust it, resleeve it etc. HHernia and resleeve are very different. HHernias are common in the MO community and surgically repaired mostly by WLS, that is probabaly why your thoracic surgeon is telling you to go to a WLS. Actually if you had the DS in 2011, that is great they can fix the hernia and look at your sleeve and resleeve is necessary. You will feel better once you have this repaired.

Oh wow….how long did the first sleeve last before you got the hernia and how long did the "fix" last?
Also, what was the recovery period for the hernia surgery? How long before you were back at work?
Thanks!
