For the vets, I need some advice. I had my DS in 2011. I lost most of my weight and was 20 pounds from goal. I now find myself about 30 pounds from goal. This isn't the direction I wanted to be going!! I had an obstruction about 2 years ago and had to have a revision to my intestines, which resulted in a loop now (image attached). I updated the original DS picture and I asked my surgeon to see if I was showing my new system correctly. I don't know if I have lost the benefit of my mal-absorption after blockage fix or if it's just my old habits coming back. I don't feel like I have any of my original benefits of the surgery anymore. Thoughts? Attachments:

Keep a detailed food log for one week, then post it here.

OK. Admittedly, I am eating too many carbs and I'm trying to get that under control. I think one of my issues is that I really need to find a therapist to help me with eating issues that are coming back again. I hope to get a recommendation for someone locally.

if you have a job that offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) they can help you find a local therapist (that's what I did years ago). If you don't get a recommendation, start contacting local therapists and interview them. If you don't click with them, move on to another.
Bounce back weight is very common. I think the majority of us experience it. That's the beauty of the DS. You always have the malabsorption to some degree to help get things in check, as long as you recognize what's doing it - which it seems you have.
I agree with NYB - keep a log and that will tell you what's doing it. Like you said it's the carbs.
The old saying is they operate on your stomach not on your head. But you're recognizing that, and that's GREAT!

How long was your common channel prior to your surgery for the blockage?
Am I reading that correctly that it is 275 now?

Prior to my blockage, my common channel was 100cm. From what I understand now, my common channel is much longer now. Since they had to remove a segment of my colon as well, the doctor was afraid to have it be too short for fear I would have constant loose stools. I think my problem is a combination of not having the benefit that I used to have and then I get depressed with that knowledge. When I exercise, I feel great and depression is under control. When I'm not exercising, my depression hits big time and I can't get motivated to do anything. I will consult with my EAP to see if they can provide me with a recommendation of someone to talk to. I need to get it under control before I screw it all up. I've come so far to fail now!! Thank you all for your help! Like someone else said, it fixed my stomach, but not my head!!

Oh dear. Yes, the longer common channel does cause you to absorb more. Who did your blockage surgery? I would feel better if it was a DS surgeon because then I would know that there was a greater chance that the longer channel was necessary. Do you have a copy of your surgical report? Yes, exercise releases all those feel good endorphins. Keep it up. Good for you for seeking a therapist. You're making positive steps in the right direction.

Thoughts? I understand how you feel, but please stop blaming yourself. First you have been through an obstruction and had to have your intestines rerouted to save your life, what happened is you lost your true DS. I know someone (I will preserve her identity) that had an obstruction and had her DS taken down they were not familiar with her anatomy and it was an emergency situation, she gained 120 lbs, of course I am not saying this is what you had done. She did have her DS surgeon go in 2 years later and give her the DS again, but she never lost all here weight again. What I would do in your situation is ask Dr K is he can do anything, I tell you if anyone can fix you, he can. He will tell you what he thinks, what you can expect, what your options are. I hope you find some real answers soon, and you have some comfort and peace, sometimes that is difficult to come by.
