Just got the results from my labs. I hate getting them done (hate having to fast). Of the 18+ tubes of blood taken, evidently the one test that I needed for my Reclast infusion scheduled in the couple of weeks was not done. Intact PTH. According to Quest, the there was no viable specimen for the test. WTF. I was at the lab for over an hour. I kept asking the technician if everything was OK, if he had everything he needed, etc. He seemed very organized but obviously something happened.
Does anyone know if I need to fast for just the Intact PTH?

Quest did the same thing to me last month on my PTH also. They coded it as the same problem! I was in there over an hour and then got called back 2 weeks later only for them to screw it up again and so I had no PTH results to go over with Dr. Elariny with. Seems odd that we would have the same problem, same company and same coding for reason.

Seems odd that we would have the same problem, same company and same coding for reason. And same surgeon. The coding just means they screwed up the specimen. Not sure if it needs to be handled differently (frozen, no light, etc.). Did you go to the Herndon Quest location - ha? My PTH has been good the past few years so I'm hoping that it's OK because I'm not sure I can get the PTH done before my Reclast infusion. My calcium number was good so we'll see what happens.

I never had my PTH checked before the Reclast infusions I've had. Vitamin D and Calcium, only.

Thanks AA. The doctor said calcium, so in my mind calcium and PTH always go together. My calcium and D both look good but I still want to see my PTH. Will get that checked when I get home.
