Not Thanksgiving specific, but tonight I made for dinner:
roasted chicken with potatoes sauteed haricots verts with shallot vinaigrette honey and cumin roasted carrots with a tahini/yogurt sauce
Very DS friendly meal - I'll only eat a few potatoes but everything else is great.
You could think outside the box for Thanksgiving.
For example I am going to roast sweet potatoes - I will peel them and cut them up, toss them with onions, garlic, olive oil. Delicious this way.

That dinner tonight sounds delicious! My husband is an amazing cook, I'll share this with him. Me, I'm good at following directions, that's the only way I can cook!
He makes sweet potatoes the same way. I'm finalizing my Thanksgiving menu tonight, mmmm, can't wait!

I like these mini crusts for a sweet treat. They have 13g carbs each and I fill them with SF jello cheese cake pudding made with half & half and a little whip cream on top. Not gourmet by any means but fun!

My husband and I just finalized our Thanksgiving menu, turns out it will be 24 people this year. I put forkful next to items I will only have a forkful of and wrote eat next to other things I will try.
Cheese and pepperoni trays - eat Vegetable tray cream of turkey soup - eat Caesar salad
2 turkeys - eat 1 ham 10 pounds mashed potatos- two forkfuls Candied sweet potatos Creamed spinach - forkful Berry cranberry sauce Jelly cranberry sauce - eat Applesauce Fresh seasoned corn Baked macaroni and cheese Sausage herb stuffing Regular stuffing - forkful Fresh green beans with roasted garlic, bacon, and pepper flakes - eat Honey carrots - forkful Vegetable mix of broccoli, cauliflower, and cheese
Strawberry cheesecake Cherry pie Blueberry pie Apple pie Brownies Chocolate chip cookies Chocolate cream pie - two forkfuls Vanilla ice cream Whipped cream
I'll be cooking starting Monday evening through Wednesday at noon. As always, I'll do a formal setting with gift place cards (probably a candle with the person's name written on it). Each of the three tables will have flowers, two cornucopias and one fall display turkey. Im really looking forward to Thanksgiving! If you see something I'm eating which may cause trouble, please warn me!!
Hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving,
Kelly

Watch that cranberry sauce if you're trying to avoid carbs. It's full of sugar.

I wish we did Thanksgiving here in South Africa! Why can't you? You know you are a trendsetter my lovely. Mmm, now that is a thought! I have so very much to be thankful for, and need more opportunities to express it. The menu would be pretty different though, as we are well into summer. Think pretty salads, watermelons, cucumber soup, and steak on the fire - every celebration simply has to be a braai!

Oh my! Kelly, that menu is super intimidating! I made a fraction of that this year for my husbands 50th, with more than 50 guests. We hardly ever cater all on our own. For most cultural events everyone brings a contribution to the table. At Christmas we are about that many people, but everyone makes one meat, one salad and one side, with the singles usually doing the dessert and drinks.

Leonie, potlucks - which we call them here in the U.S. are quite popular. Often the hosts will make a few key dishes and then everyone brings something. We do this for dinners and brunches. I'll be going to several holiday fetes as well, I promise to take pics. And I vote, you just host your own Thanksgiving, why the hell not, and do it potluck style! I'd love to see your adaption of this meal. And then you should suggest a traditional South African meal for us and let's see what we can come up with. These meals sound sooooo good. I love to cook and make this meal too, and miss doing it. I'll be going to a couple of different friends' homes tomorrow, so I'm just tasked with bringing a cheese plate to one, and wines for each. However. I decided this year since I don't like missing out on leftovers, I got a turkey breast, new gluten free stuffing mix from Trader Joes that I will heavily doctor/savory up, sweet potatoes and onions that I will roast NYB style, and plan to do this in the morning so I a) have nice smells in the house b) leftovers c) doggies get thanksgiving too!

I am making a nut crust cheesecake and a crust free pumpkin pie. How are you doing the bettaraves? Here is the betteraves recipe 2 carrots, chopped 3 potatoes 2lbs of fresh beets 2 tbsp of fresh parsley ½ cup of melted butter ½ cup of mayonnaise ½ tsp of ground pepper 1 tsp of salt Put the carrots and potatoes to boil and add ½ tsp of salt to water. • Cut the beet stems about 1 inch from the top to preserve its color. • In a separate pot, add water and ½ tsp of salt. Boil the beets for approximately one hour or until tender. • In a mixing bowl, peel and chop the carrots and potatoes into half inch chunks. • Peel and dice the beets then add to the mixing bowl. • Drizzle melted butter over the salad. • Combine fresh parsley, ground pepper, mayonnaise and stir. • Serve hot or cold.
